Although, if the rain continues to fall, the walk will take place at our new Multi-Purpose Athletic Center. Capital City Art Initiative celebrates the artists of Western Nevada College this evening, and then welcomes Phyllis Shafer for an illustrated discussion of her work. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club shows off a young Elizabeth Taylor tonight in the 1954 romantic drama ‘The Last Time I Saw Paris.’

Submitted by editor on Fri, 02/03/2017 - 1:20amCARSON CITY, Nev. – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is hosting free basketball dribbling clinics for kids of all ages from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. every Saturday through Feb. 25 at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center at 1870 Russell Way in Carson City.
Drop-in clinics are open to children and teens, and participants need not be Club members.

Friday, Feb. 3: Things to do in Carson City

Plenty of live music tonight will have you moving and grooving: Mo'z Motley Blues at Living the Good Life, Pawnshop at Westside Pour House, and Decoy at the Max Casino to name a few. Several new art exhibits are opening tonight, so make the rounds to the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, the Carson City Visitor Center, and Paradise Salon Spa Wellness if you want to hit them all.
Art exhibits in Carson City set for Friday receptions

Gil Martin, who makes his own paint from natural earth pigments that he digs up from various sources in the western United States, will feature his work in the “From the Ground Up” exhibit presented by the Capital City Arts Initiative Friday through May 24 at the Courthouse Gallery.

A rainy day is in store for us today, and possibly tomorrow, but don’t let that ruin the fun. Jeffery Pace welcomes you to the Grand Opening of Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery’s new location. Two screenings of ‘Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age’ this evening will be in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center: it’s free and open to all. Sing your heart out downtown. You’ll find karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar and the Westside Pour House.
Boys and Girls Clubs in Carson City unveil Mike Frezzo Tech Center
Submitted by editor on Wed, 02/01/2017 - 3:46pmThe Frezzo family of Washoe Valley honored their son and brother Mike, who passed away from esophageal cancer in 2014, by presenting a naming gift to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to establish the Mike Frezzo Tech Center for Club members ages 5 to 12.
Katie Leao, chief professional officer for the Club, said the Club’s tech lab had not been updated for over 8 years. The gift includes new furniture and 30 new Chromebook laptops, similar to those used by the Carson City School District.

Western Nevada College, Capital City Art Initiative to showcase 'Art from WNC'
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 01/31/2017 - 10:00amThe Capital City Arts Initiative is presenting an “ART from WNC” exhibition starting Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Community Development Building — “The Brick” — 108 E Proctor Street in Carson City.
Twenty-one student artists from Western Nevada College are represented in the exhibit that is open to the public at no cost from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 1 through March 30.
ART from WNC includes a cache of creativity, including graphic design, drawing, photography and book art pieces that show the diversity of the students’ imagination.
Mountain Picassos: Basque Arborglyphs of the Great Basin

“Mountain Picassos: Basque Arborglyphs of the Great Basin” is part of the Nevada Touring Initiative’s Traveling Exhibition Program and will be on display at WNC’s Carson City campus from Monday, Feb. 13 through Friday, April 7.
It provides a rare opportunity to see some of the intimate personal images inscribed by Basque sheepherders in the aspen groves of the Great Basin during the first half of the 20th century.
Carson City Mayor approaches 2017 with optimism in State of City speech

He delivered his State of the City speech Monday night to dozens inside the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, reviewing the city's successes and challenges from 2016 while also reassuring residents about the future.

Take advantage of the dry weather by joining in on the Parks and Recreation Easy Walk in John Mankins Park in Silver Oak. It’s a Jazz Extravaganza at the Community Center tonight. Mile High Jazz Band has teamed up with the Carson High and Carson Middle School jazz bands for their annual concert. The monthly fundraiser at Firehouse Subs makes raising money for Relay for Life as easy as ordering dinner.

The State of the City address, "Carson City - A Community Working Together," will be presented in the Community Center’s Bob Boldrick Theater and is open to all. One thing we can expect is an influx of legislative staff, lobbyists, and lawmakers flooding Carson City. The next Legislative session begins in one week, so expect a little more traffic on the roads and our new downtown crosswalks to get a lot more use.
