Happy Birthday Nevada. My favorite holiday has arrived, and with it a mountain of fun to be had. Normally my weekend list is sorted by chronological start time, but for this one I will be separating out the downtown parade related activities for your ease. Keep reading and have a safe and wonderful weekend.

Halloween fun all weekend for the kids and kids at heart

Even though Carson City is awash with Nevada Day festivities, Halloween is just as important. Here is an updated list of all the reasons to throw on a costume Saturday through Monday in Carson City and the surrounding valleys. Remember, rain is expected on Friday and Sunday, so consider an umbrella if you don’t want your make-up to run!

RSVP Nevada Day Carnival opens at Mills Park

Colorful carnival lights brightened a dreary Thursday evening sky as the RSVP Fair and Carnival opened at Mills Park for its first of four days during the Nevada Day weekend in Carson City.

Hold onto your broomstick, this weekend is bound to sweep you up in Halloween fun. First you’ll need a pumpkin. The Harvest Train Festival and Pumpkin Patch at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to start. Take the costumed kids to a Trunk or Treat at Advantage Auto Works off Old Hot Springs Road courtesy of the members of Carson Cruise Meet and Greet. Team up with Mark Twain for a ghostly tour of our haunted downtown or you can choose a shorter tour that’s perfect for families. Keep reading, this is just the tip of the candy corn.

RSVP Nevada Day Fair to feature Day of Service, Carson City Victory Rollers

The Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is hosting the Nevada Day Carnival and Fair for a third decade at Mills Park over the Nevada Day weekend.

Now in its 31st year, RSVP’s Nevada Day Carnival and Fair provides a fun family entertainment venue during the Silver State’s statehood celebration.

Harvest Train arrives in Carson City for second annual run

Harvest time at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (NSRM) started Saturday in Carson City with a cornucopia of family fun and entertainment.

The Harvest Train returned to Carson City Saturday morning for another two-weekend run in October, steaming into Wabuska Station to begin its celebration of the fall season.

The weekend is here and you’ll find plenty to do in Carson City and the surrounding valleys. Run from zombies in Virginia City as the REDRUN obstacle race returns. Find the perfect pumpkin at the annual Seeliger Elementary Pumpkin Patch. The long-awaited Animal Shelter has been built and is now home to adoptable pets waiting for a home: take a tour at their open house after the 10 a.m. ribbon cutting. A Warning About Public Funding of Stadiums

As our readers know, we’re huge sports fans. So the idea of going to a professional sporting event in our home state of Nevada is very exciting.
And that excitement is resonating across Nevada as the Oakland Raiders are considering relocating to Las Vegas.

However, that excitement alone isn’t enough to justify higher taxes in order to provide public funding for constructing a new stadium. Professional sports are, after all, a business and should be financed on their own.

Sunday, Oct. 2: Things to do around Carson City

The weather cools down just as the fun heats up. Fundraisers, contests, food, football, outhouse races and more. Carson Valley Community Theater has one last performance of ‘The Savannah Sippin Society.’ Pooches in costume are welcome at Genoa’s last Sweet Sippin Sunday: there will be a pet parade at 3 p.m. And for all those brides out there's there's a fall wedding faire at Silver Oak Golf Club. MDA Muscle Walk at Meadowood Mall

Fight muscular dystrophy with Meadowood Mall at its MDA Muscle Walk on Saturday, October 15! The walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Center Court and will take participants around the mall.

There will be a DJ to play some tunes during the walk and vendors will be on-site providing resources and support to those with muscular dystrophy. A special victory lap in a comfortable environment will also be provided for participants with muscular dystrophy.

Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally. Battle Born Harley on Research Way offers a huge party without ever leaving the valley. Those two events are hardly all that Carson City and our neighboring counties have to offer, however. Dayton Valley Days 2016 this weekend features festival of parades, music, food and more

Celebrating all things community and the first responders who keep its residents safe, this weekend marks the 28th Dayton Valley Days celebration.

The annual two-day festival is the largest event of the year and draws thousands of visitors and community members to the historic district. Dayton Valley Days helps raise funds for continued restoration of the historic schoolhouse–turned community center and local nonprofit organizations.

From computers to fitness and fashion, WNC Continuing Education offers courses this fall

Although the fall semester has begun at Western Nevada College, many noncredit educational and self-improvement classes are still available through WNC Continuing Education.

Class offerings range from learning the Washoe language to Tai Chi, to accounting methods designed for small business owners.
