Boy Scouts of America Troop 33, now in its 77th year, will host its 3rd annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser on August 13 at Fuji Park in Carson City.

Curry Street, from Third to Spear, was jammed with vendor tents and thousands of walking palates eager to get a taste of downtown Carson City.

All summer long, Thursday nights have been known for the Silver Dollar Classic Car meet-ups with upwards of 80 vehicles showing off their chrome and fuzzy dice at various venues throughout the valley. This Thursday’s cruise night kicks off a weekend of nostalgic car fun. Head to the Plaza Events Center at 5 p.m. for the annual Cruise Night Show and Shine, Music and Spirits and hold onto your bobby sox.

I really hope I’m not required to choose a favorite event. I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, has announced two job opportunities that have become available. The organization is dedicated to serving the needs of the homeless and hungry individuals and families in Carson City.

In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer talks with Zack Hames about the upcoming second annual Sassabration Festival on Saturday, July 16 from noon to 9 p.m. at Sassafras, 1500 Old Hot Springs Road.

The event features food, friendship, entertainment, vendors, a bicycle parade and free swimming at The Carson Hot Springs. The festival is a celebration of unity, diversity and community. See the video below.

More United States military veterans will be able to travel to Washington, D.C. because of the proceeds expected from this weekend's regional chili cook-offs held at Glen Eagles Restaurant in north Carson City, Honor Flight Nevada Founder Jon Yuspa said.

Hawaiian music, its melody as gentle as a swaying tropical breeze, floated off the stage and around the Marv Teixeira Pavilion at Mills Park Saturday afternoon to the delight of visitors at the first-ever Polynesian Festival in Carson City.

Let’s get ducky! Nevada Humane Society’s Duck Race & Festival is swimming back for a 7th year with a goal to adopt 30,000 rubber ducks to benefit homeless pets! Adopt a duck now then spend an exciting day in the park to cheer on their duck as they race down the Truckee River.

Whether mild, medium or fiery, there’s one place this weekend that will be filled with a western culinary collision of tangy peppers, garlic and onion, tomato and cumin.

Chili lovers from around the region will gather at Glen Eagles restaurant in Carson City this weekend for the High Sierra and Nevada Capitol Regional Chili Cook Offs.

Come join us at the Marv-Teixeira Pavilion for the Inaugural Polynesian Festival. Come see live Hawaiian, Tahitian, and other Culture Dances and Songs. Vendors will be service Polynesian Food and kids can learn to make their own candy leis. Brought to you by the Northern Nevada Hui Association.

Sunday is the day before Independence Day, but Sparks is getting a jump on the festivities with their Star Spangled Sparks Celebration and fireworks. King’s Beach always celebrates early, so you can catch fireworks at the northeast end of Tahoe, as well. Keep reading: the weekend is in full swing.

The Third and Curry Farmer's Market, held every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. through September, drew a large crowd of hundreds this morning as events held around Carson City celebrate Independence Day weekend.

Holy moly. Carson City is hopping with fun times for everyone. Enjoy Saturday downtown with the Third and Curry Farmers Market, the Downtown Business Association Wine Walk, and a free concert at the Brewery Arts Center. Mills Park features the return of the RSVP Carnival with rides, food, booths, games, and more.

Fourth of July celebrations abound in the Carson City area. Fireworks can be found in Carson City, Reno, Sparks, and at both north and south shore of Lake Tahoe. There are several daytime events going on as well, so grab the kids, friends, and family and have a great Independence Day weekend!

Back to back weekends filled with events at Mills Park in Carson City culminates this weekend with the annual RSVP 4th of July Carnival and Celebration, which launches Friday.

This will be the 24th year that RSVP has sponsored the holiday weekend carnival, complete with fireworks on Monday, July 4, plus plenty of rides, music, food booths, arts and crafts vendors and demonstrations throughout the weekend.

The weekend isn’t over, but it’s beginning to wind down. Catch the Pet Parade as part of Dayton’s Oodles of Noodles Festival. Everyone is welcome to join in at the BMX Track at the Livermore Sports Complex: Olympic Day means free racing and no membership required. Head to Eagle Valley Golf Course for a free Family Golf Clinic.

SUNDAY:

Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Motor officers from around the country return to Carson City this week to train and compete in the 13th annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge at Mills Park.

The event runs Thursday through Saturday at Mills Park with Thursday a practice day for the competitors. The big events that bring the most spectators and participants will be on Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and feature music, vendors, food, demonstrations and contests.

Sheri Rupert kicks off the Stewart Indian School Father's Day Powwow with Sam and his wife, King and queen of the event.

The Stewart Father's Day Powwow Committee in partnership with the Nevada Indian Commission is hosting the 2016 Stewart Father's Day Powwow at the former Stewart Indian School in Carson City, which got underway Friday and continues through Saturday and Sunday.

Planes, trains, and bicycles are the theme of this Fathers’ Day weekend. Epic Rides has taken over downtown with booths, bikes, beer, music, and more. The Carson City Airport is hosting their annual Fly-in and Open house, complete with hot air balloon rides. World War II aviation buffs won’t want to miss the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport. Steampunk meets Steam trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum. As soon as John Rupert, 15, could walk, he started learning the traditional dances of his Native American forefathers.

“We have all my regalia in all different sizes,” said John, the son of a Washoe father and Paiute mother. “I think it’s cool. Not many people can say they go to powwows on the weekends.”

Who doesn't love a Christmas party? Especially a Christmas party in July. Wishes N Angels, a Northern Nevada nonprofit that helps families in need of assistance, will host a Christmas in July fundraiser July 16 at Battle Born Harley-Davidson in Carson City.

Aviation and aerospace displays, historic aircraft, formation fliers, hot air balloon rides, a pancake breakfast and more will be featured this Saturday at the Carson City Airport Open House.

With well over 6,000 visitors attending last year, this year’s event is expected will be bigger with a bevy of activities including interactive displays, flybys, plane and helicopter demonstrations, drone demonstrations, food and beverages, a bounce house and many family activities.

The Dayton Valley Days Committee invites crafters, vendors and anyone who wants to reach thousands of people to reserve a booth for the 28th annual street festival held in the heart of historic Old Town Dayton.

The weekend winds down Sunday, but not with a whimper. The Fair has one more day of fun to offer. Take to the track with Carson City BMX at the Livermore Sports Complex. Relax in the shade of the Governor’s Mansion: the Carson City Symphony’s “Pops Party” concert is free to attend and a perfect way to spend the afternoon. Read on for even more happenings.
