Sunday, April 30: Things to do around Carson City and beyond

Take advantage of the spring sunshine and seize the day. Virginia City roars with the sound of their annual Grand Prix. Beer and brats aren’t usually associated with ballet, but the Sierra Nevada Ballet makes the annual event at the Brewery Arts Center a great time for all. The Earth Spirit Faire wraps up its weekend of wellness at the Community Center. Head to Reno for a Cinco De Mayo Celebration at the Grand Sierra that features musicians, cuisine, and carnival rides.

The Earth Spirit Faire has returned to the Nevada state capital, featuring several craft vendors and practitioners in the healing arts, massage, and intuitive readings inside the Carson City Community Center gymnasium Saturday and Sunday.

Hold on to your hat, the weekend is here. If it’s a cowboy hat, head over to Genoa for their annual Cowboy Festival. Plenty of free things to see, hear, and experience await. The annual Spring Earth Spirit Faire lets you celebrate Mother Earth with workshops, holistic practitioners, great vendors, and a raffle. It benefits the Heart to Heart School and Advocates to End Domestic Violence so it’s always worth checking out. Dozens of vendors are expected in celebration of Earth at the annual Earth Spirit Faire held this year at the Carson City Community Center this Saturday and Sunday, April 29 - 30. The faire runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center.

Holy moly, it’s going to be a busy weekend: busy and gorgeous out. A bowling tournament and the Comstock Shootout Soccer tournament have the hotels and motels busting at the seams. Celebrate Earth Day with Muscle Powered by making a small piece of Carson City that much cleaner; the trash meets at 8 a.m. and leaves you plenty of time to enjoy the day. Rummage and book sales, live music, a fun run and a half-marathon, comedy and so much more await you. Check out the list for all the ways to embrace the sunshine.

Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show set for April 28-29

The sixth annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show will be held April 28-29, 2017 in the South Tahoe Middle School multipurpose room.

Space is being increased to allow more vendors from the region to participate in the only event of its type on the South Shore. A free children's planting area is also being added to the two day show that runs from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m on Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m on Saturday.

The week winds to a close, but the events are all gearing up. Today kicks off the three-day High School Rodeo at the Douglas Fairgrounds, and if all goes well, it should remain dry for our local ropers and riders. Kids will want to test their skill at the ‘Pitch, Hit, Run’ Competition at the Boys and Girls Club. Secret Agents are the topic at the monthly Mike Thompson Lecture at the Plaza Hotel if you’re looking for intrigue.

Northern Nevada Spring Faire in Carson City set for April 15 at Fuji Park

Join us for the first annual Spring Faire at Fuji Park in Carson City on April 15, 10 a.m. This is a free event open to the public. We are raising money for the Esperanza Foundation to help Vets with healing and for the Littlest Things that do Kindness events with animals and more for the community.

Fuji Park is located at 601 Old Clear Creek Road in Carson City.

The Littlest Things in Carson City is more than a petting zoo, it’s a refuge. You’ll find ponies, goats, puppies, ducks, and more at this great non-profit rescue and they are always looking for animal-loving volunteers. Stop by their open house/volunteer orientation this afternoon to check it out. It’s Tartan Day at the Legislature, so don’t be alarmed if you see a few kilts around town. Karaoke at Jimmy G’s, live music at Glen Eagles and Living the Good Life, and Bike Night at Battle Born Harley are just a sample of tonight’s offerings. Flying Pig Flea Market April 29-30

Come browse and shop the over 40 vendors at the indoor flea market. We have this once a month inside the big building at Fuji Park on Old Clear Creek Road in Carson City. Spring has sprung, but apparently Mother Nature didn’t get the memo. Join the Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson Mall and take part in an indoor wine walk and rummage sale. Help Hot Spot Yoga and Fitness for Life celebrate their grand opening with free classes, health vendors, a 5K run, and more. Hit the dance floor with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club; their monthly dance party is held in the Grand Ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center. Job seekers, employers turn out for Carson City Job Fair

About 65 vendors greeted job seekers Friday afternoon at the Carson City Community Center gymnasium during the first of two annual job fairs hosted and organized by Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS).

Only this year, Western Nevada College collaborated with CCHHS to put on the job fair that is known to attract hundreds of job seekers.

A second job fair typically takes place in the fall at the same location.

Organizers of the inaugural Carson City Fair are reaching out to the community for sponsors and donors of the mid-summer event making its debut at Fuji Park in July.

The first annual Carson Mall Health, Wellness, and Safety Fair was held on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Just one last week to go until Hanukkah and Christmas. The Carson Mall is jam-packed full of crafters and unique shops for some of your last-minute gift purchases. Hop in the car and take a tour of the brightly lit downtown and houses throughout the area. Kids will enjoy decorating a cookie at Genoa Candy and Coffee in Carson Lanes; you may as well get there early and bowl a few games first.
