The Carson City Library has something in common with the epic spaghetti western ‘The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly’: they are both 50 years old. Celebrate the classic film and our classy library with an afternoon showing of the movie. Join Cherie Shipley at the Brewery Arts Center; the annual ‘Joyful Noise’ Community Holiday Show is full of cheer for all ages. Our high school and middle school student orchestras invite you to their free winter concert at the Community Center this evening. Living the Good Life welcomes singer/songwriter Liam Kyle Cahill back to their stage tonight.

Carson Mall Holiday Craft Fair, Santa's Village continue through Dec. 24

Christmas is now just 11 days away, and children around Carson City have until Dec. 24 to visit Santa Claus at the Carson Mall to give him their holiday wish lists this year.

The Arlington Square Ice Rink is temporarily closed due to some storm damage sustained over the weekend, but the great people of the Parks and Recreation Department are working hard to have it up and running soon. 75 years ago, the USS Nevada was one of the battleships trapped when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. She was the only battleship to get underway during the attack, and according to Naval historian Kermit (Kit) H. Bonner the ship was "the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal and depressing morning" for the United States. Today we remember those lost in that attack, and remember the history behind the battleship that is our battle born namesake. A special exhibit of USS Nevada artifacts, and a lecture on her history are free for all at the State Museum at 1 p.m.

UPDATE SATURDAY, DEC. 10: The Christmas Santa Parade in downtown Carson City has been canceled due to weather. Santa Claus, however, will be at the Rocking and Rolling store at Telegraph Square beginning at 11 a.m.

It’s finally Friday. The annual Salvation Army Turkey Drive runs 6 a.m. until six this evening: drop off your donation at the Max Casino in Carson or at the C.O.D. Casino in Minden. Get to know Supervisor Karen Abowd during her monthly walkabout at the Community Center; head inside to get a peek at the new art exhibit in the Sierra Room while you’re there. The Craft Fair at Carson High School is a local favorite: over 125 vendors, music, and pictures with Santa. It starts tonight and continues tomorrow.

Carson High School will be hosting its annual Holiday Craft Fair this weekend, Friday, Nov. 18 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is free for children and K-12 students. Adults, admission is Friday $2 and allows re-entry on Saturday; Saturday's admission is $1.50, with a discount if you bring something non-perishable for their food drive.

Hoopty-Doopty-Doooo! Did you know that the IRS is watching for large cash transactions? They are working hard to stop illegal activity (such as money laundering by various criminals involved in tax evasion, terrorist financing, drug dealing, etc.), which usually involves a lot of cash.

But wait a minute, aren’t there legitimate large cash deposits from businesses such as Retail Stores, ATM Vendors, Check Cashing Firms, Bars, Banks, Casinos, etc.? Of course, and those businesses have learned a simple required step to avoid any surprise visits from the IRS or DEA agents.

Vendors sought for Nov. 12 St. Ann’s Women’s Community and Dayton Valley Lion’s Club craft fair

Vendors are needed for the Craft Fair & Quartermania, hosted by St. Ann’s Women’s Community and Dayton Valley Lion’s Club, Saturday, Nov. 12 at Dayton Valley Community Center, 170 Pike St., in Old Town Dayton.

St. Ann’s has hosted the craft fair in the past and this is the first time the two non-profit organizations are teaming up to create on fun event, said Jeanne Broughton, who co-chairs with Heather Motta.
