Last Saturday morning 15 intrepid Carson City area "Trash Mobbers" came out to clean up the wetlands to protect the birds and wildlife. We met near the Humane Society on Airport and then walked along the Carson Freeway Multi-Use two thirds of mile to access the wetlands area.

Heading into the weekend, there's a bevy of events around the Carson City region that brings a cool breeze to the first three days of summer. The 16th Motor Officer Challenge kicks off Friday at 7 a.m. at Mills Park. Lace up the shoes for a Friday morning walk at East Silver Saddle Ranch hosted by Muscle Powered.

Keep Tahoe Red, White and Blue Beach Cleanup set for July 5

After Tahoe's celebrated July Fourth festivities, our beaches are thrashed with trash, which can hurt wildlife and lake clarity.

Each year, hundreds of Tahoe residents and visitors turn out for our largest cleanup of the year to remove litter from our beaches. Help Keep Tahoe Blue by joining a beach cleanup site! We will provide cleanup materials, refreshments and raffle prizes.

Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada picks up 23 lbs of 'micro trash' during first Adopt-a-Trail program

On May 11th the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada completed their first Adopt-A-Trail clean-up at Carson River Park.

The group walked from the parking lot to the fishing pier, focusing on micro trash along the trail and in the parking lot.

They picked up 23 pounds of trash. The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space department would like to thank the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada for participating in the Adopt-A-Trail program and completing their first clean-up!

A big thank you goes out to Grapplers INC for donating new Grapplers to the volunteer program for volunteers to use.

Boys and Girls Club Adopt-A-Trail Clean-Up clears 200 lbs of garbage

On April 22nd 2019, the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada hosted their first clean-up of Fulstone Wetlands as part of the Adopt-A-Trail program.

Around 90 participants picked up 200 pounds of trash! The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department wants to extend our thanks for the efforts of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada.

Carson City's prescription drug roundup takes in 551 pounds of pills and needles

The first of two Partnership Carson City prescription drug roundups of 2019 was a public safety success. Saturday’s community event netted 414 pounds of pills and 137 pounds of needles.

Muscle Powered Trash Mob cleaned up at East Silver Saddle Ranch on Saturday

We met in the large parking area at East Silver Saddle Ranch on Sierra Vista Lane and spread out to clear trash between the Carson River and Sierra Vista Lane. Things have improved a lot since the improvements have been put in by Carson City Public Works and Parks, Recreation, and Open Space but we were still able to find about 360 pounds of trash.

Man arrested Thursday after throwing rocks through Carson City Aquatic Center windows

A 36-year-old transient man was arrested at the Carson City Aquatic Center after throwing rocks through the windows. He was arrested for failing to register as an ex-felon, destruction of city property, and disorderly conduct.

Deputies responded to the Aquatic Center Thursday just after 5 pm for a report of a man throwing rocks through the windows of the center.

Carson City residents trained in administering drug to reverse overdose

Drake Dembke has lost two friends to opioid overdose. One was dropped off by his friends in front of the emergency room, the other was left by the side of the road.
“As a recovering heroin addict myself, I’ve seen what it does,” he said. “It sucks.”

Carson City man arrested on felony drug charge after deputies mistook him for twin brother

A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested on a contempt of court warrant and felony possession of a controlled substance with an intent to sale after deputies mistook the man for his twin brother.

Jonathan Scott Crandell was arrested after deputies from the tri-tori-county Gang Unit were patrolling a local casino when they observed a man who looked like a man who had two warrants out for his arrest.

Carson City Public Works announced its Spring cleanup week will offer no-cost landfill disposal vouchers to local residents.

Trash fire burns at Carson City dump Saturday afternoon

UPDATE: As of 2 pm, the Carson City Fire Department has closed the Dump and is turning people away, according to Carson Now photographer Tanja Musselman who was on scene.

The Carson City Fire Department was called to a trash fire at the Carson City Dump just after 1:30 pm on Saturday.

The fire appeared to originate within a trash pile on the top of the hill. According to firefighters on scene, the fire was burning an area of 20 by 25 feet.

As of 1:45 it had not reached nearby brush but instead was contained within the trash pile.
