Annual Special Olympics Nevada Summer Games held this weekend in Reno

More than 300 Special Olympics athletes from across the state will converge this weekend in Reno for the annual Special Olympics Nevada (SONV) Summer Games. The torch was carried through Carson City Friday on its way to the games.

Fresh off of his homecoming victory in Stockton on May 4, lightweight Gabriel Flores Jr. returns to Reno on Saturday, June 8, at the Reno/Sparks Convention Center. Reno has been like a second home for Flores in his young career and coming back so quickly is a testament of his dedication to the the sport.

Kids Fishing Day at Baily's Pond reels in good times

Baily's Pond in South Carson hosted a free Kids Fishing Day Saturday to encourage young anglers into the sport of fishing.

The pond was stocked and ready for the little reelers to catch their dinners for the night. A cleaning station was available on site to help with getting their fish ready to take home.

Carson City-based Ageless Aviation expands fleet of Stearmans to honor military veterans

Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation's fleet is expanding.

CARSON CITY – Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation (AADF), a Carson City-based nonprofit that honors U.S. military veterans with free Dream Flights, is adding a re-stored 1943 Stearman biplane to its fleet, thanks to the fundraising efforts of a local community in Wisconsin.

Taylor Clarke goes six innings in first Diamondbacks start

Taylor Clarke sported the sedona red today with the Arizona Diamondbacks for his first big-league start.

Recalled from Reno this morning, Clarke was tagged with the loss in a 6-3 contest in Tampa Bay. The right-hander pitched a solid six innings, giving up two earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

Carson High teachers and staff receive $10,000 from Carson City church to 'Pay It Forward'

CARSON CITY — Carson High School teachers and support staff were surprised this morning at their regularly scheduled 7 a.m. faculty meeting in the library before classes began. A total of $10,000, parceled out in individual envelopes containing $50 bills, sat neatly organized on a table across the room. Every teacher, custodian, kitchen worker, counselor, para pro and faculty member was given $50 to “Pay It Forward.”

Carson Valley's Steve Jacobo leads Americans in Para Sport World Championships

The 2018/2019 Para Sport season wrapped up this past weekend in a thrilling two days of competition, on American home ice in Lake Placid, NY.

For the Americans, Steven Jacobo established himself early as the frontrunner for Team USA, closing out the season with an eighth place finish on his home track. He rallied for the third fastest time of the fourth and final heat to show his promise in the sport.

Fishing Report: Indian Creek Reservoir and Lake Tahoe currently best bet

Hello fellow anglers. Hard to believe that opening day fishing season in California is only four weeks away. One thing we can all plan on is, all the back country lakes and roads will not be open until June or July. The one thing we can count on is the Carson River and a few of the lakes in the Inyo and Mono County area.

Opening day will be on April 27th this year, and with our rain and snow totals, there will be plenty of water everywhere.

24-hour ride in Carson City cycles in donations of more than $1,000 for Boys and Girls Club

Indoor cyclists burned at least 2,000 calories and rode about 50 miles within the first 20 minutes at Life Cycle Elite Spin Studio's 24-hour community ride Friday.

The event was organized by Jill Larson, who coordinated with the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Nevada and the Healthy Habits Program.

Cross-country skiing returns to Spooner Lake State Park

Once again, Spooner Lake State park offers outdoor sport enthusiasts a system of meandering cross-country ski trails that wind through dense forest, across an open meadow and along the banks of Spooner Lake.

This trail system is free to the public and made possible by a partnership between Nevada State Parks and Nevada Nordic, a non-profit group based in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
