I Love Carson City's Weekend Event Summary: August 1-2

There is quite a bit going on whether you want something family friendly, adults only, indoors, outdoors, or a combination of it all. The weekly Farmers Market at Third and Curry St. is always a good way to start the weekend. Yummy food, a bounce house for the kids, and beautiful flowers are hard to argue with. Keep reading for enough fun to make your head spin!

Car lovers will want to head to the Silver Dollar Car Classic at the Max Casino, known as the Carson Station just a few days ago. The Classic moves to Mills Park for the weekend. If the Mustangs and Broncos you prefer are horses, rather than Fords, you’ll want to grab a ticket to the Bull Riding Competition at the State Fair. Carnival rides, circus performances, and live music will keep everyone entertained. Make sure to catch the shuttle from the Casino Fandango parking garage: parking at Fuji Park is extremely limited. ‘Break a leg’ to the cast of Peter Pan. Youth Theater Carson City opens tonight at the Community Center.

It’s a night down memory lane wrapped with some of Sinatra’s most famous tunes performed by some of the finest jazz musicians in the west - presented in true Sinatra style by acclaimed soul stylist, pop and rhythm and blues singer and songwriter, Bobby Caldwell.
If Frank Sinatra were alive today to celebrate his 100th birthday this year, he would be proud to be a part of this swinging night of big band music and song.
Sunday, July 19: Things to do around Carson City

Hit up the Nevada State Railroad Museum for rides on the Steam Train. Mills Park has a much smaller train to ride and plenty of room to run, play, and picnic. Watch the kittens play at Petsmart: SPCA is hosting a kitten party for adoptable pets. A concert with the Mark Sexton Band at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch is a great way to end the weekend.

Muscle Powered has organized a monthly trash mob to help keep our trails clean, join them at US Bank to help out. The Ghost Walk returns: meet behind the Firkin and Fox for some local haunted history. Teens will enjoy a ‘Night at the Library’ with pizza and games. And as always, the Nevada State Railroad Museum beckons: this week with rides on the Steam Train available.

Timberlake joins sports legends Tuesday during Tahoe celebrity opening practice round

Among the headliners to warm up and sign autographs at the famed Tahoe South course were defending 2014 champion Mark Rypien, retired New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens, American Olympic soccer star Brandi Chastain and first-timer Justin Timberlake.
Carson City Relay for Life: 'We’re here to finish the fight against cancer'

The Carson City Relay for Life brought the community together to raise money, awareness and to educate each other on the battle against cancer.

The annual Chili Cook-off and Craft Fair hits Glen Eagles this weekend, and there will be plenty to sample. If you need something cold to drink, head to 7-ELEVEN for a free small slushee from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. in celebration of Seven Eleven Day. The Farmers Market is always a good bet on Saturday mornings for sampling all the yummy stuff that grows nearby.

Carson City Sheriff's Office seeks Relay for Life walkers, runners for team

Team leaders Chief Sharon Daniels and Deputy Kip Lee who are recovering cancer survivors are looking for additional walkers and runners to join their team during this most worthwhile event.

The event kicks off at noon with featured speakers including Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, a cancer survivor. All day, all night, all weekend long, there are numerous activities throughout our area. Take a good look at the list, grab your friends, family, and kids, and have a great weekend. The Experimental Aircraft Association is hosting the Ford Tri-Motor this weekend, and has Young Eagles flights for the kids: registration and orientation is at 8 a.m. Head over to Eagle Valley Golf for free family golf day.

The self-guided tour begins at 11 a.m. and will run until 4 p.m. More than a dozen carefully selected homes and gardens, some new to the tour, some old favorites, will be available for public viewing for this special event. We are pleased to announce that the Krebs-Petersen House will be opened for your admiration. This was the location of John Wayne's last movie, "The Shootist."

The people swept all Democrats out of the state-wide offices, reversed the majorities in both houses of the Legislature, and by a 4-to-1 margin defeated the "margin" tax. We the Republican base were looking forward to restoring long-overdue sanity at the State level.

Grounds open and pre-concert entertainment by the Regency Strings strolling duo (Cecilia Twain, violin, and George Worth, bass) begins at 2 p.m. The Naughty Tea Mistresses will be there, too!

Master Autoharpist Bryan Bowers plays for one night at the Brewery Arts Center

The 22-year-old Carson City singer didn't get much screen time during the auditions show Wednesday night on the Fox talent program, but she did catch a golden ticket that took her to the Hollywood auditions. Seals and her mother Marianne were shown on screen for only a brief scene.
