Nothing will rain on our parade, Carson City. In addition to the monthly wine walk, the weekend offers a carnival, train rides, the Kentucky Derby, Mother’s Day and more. Tonight, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company debuts their spring musical ‘42nd Street.’ Find improv at the Brewery Arts Center or Comedy at the Carson Nugget. Drinking with Clowns hits the stage at Sassafras and Motown is on the menu at Living the Good Life. Food with friends is in order at Silver City’s Community Dinner Night or at A to Zen’s first ‘Fancy Friday’ open mic night.

Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro will offer a presentation on “Sheriff’s Office: Past, Present & Future” at the next Gold Hill Hotel’s Thursday Night Presentations at 7:30 p.m. May 12, 2016.

The Brewery Arts Center (BAC) in downtown Carson City will be hosting a free summer concert series this year, sponsored by the Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation.

Through the efforts of the BAC, Carson City was one of 15 cities nationwide awarded the concert series for 2016.

The Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series kicks off June 4 and will run every Saturday evening through August 6 with live music starting at 7 p.m. along Minnesota Street next to the BAC. The 10-week music series will include one Friday night show on June 17.

The concert series is free and open to the public.

The weekend has arrived, and it is packed with things to do. Pull on your cowboy boots and head out to the Cowboy Festival in Genoa. Head out to the ballfield: the WNC Wildcats softball and baseball teams are playing at home today and tomorrow. It’s the final weekend of the Proscenium Players production of Harvey; get ready for a great show. A blockbuster gathering of 90 major sports and entertainment stars — including Charles Barkley, Justin Timberlake and five NFL starting quarterbacks — have signed on for the 27th annual American Century Championship, July 19–24 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. The 54-hole tournament will be televised live on NBC Sports and NBCSN.

Today has a lot going for it. Food Truck Friday is the theme of the new United Federal Credit Union’s Grand Opening week: you can find them across the street from Mill’s Park on Williams St. Earth Day weekend kicks off at Western Nevada College with a Gem and Mineral Sale during the day, followed by a presentation by World Renowned Scientist: Dr. Charles Goldman in Marlette Hall at 7 p.m. Break a leg to the cast of ‘Harvey.’ The Procenium Players open their two weekend run at the Brewery Arts Center’s Black Box Theater tonight.

It is finally Friday. Leave the workweek behind and go have some fun. The Carson Nugget is a one-stop shop for a good time: food, drinks, comedy, and then a late night DJ all under one roof. Check out local favorites, the Whitehats, performing at Westside Pour House. Don’t miss West Coast Swing night at Yaple’s Ballroom. Karaoke lovers can choose between Carson Lanes and Whiskey Tavern.

It's time to kick off this three-day weekend. Satiate your sweet tooth at the Boys and Girls Club; high school senior Larrissa Cruzan has organized a bake sale. Head downtown to check out the Grand Opening reception at Charlie B Gallery on West Telegraph. Capital City Arts Initiative is proud to welcome a new exhibit to their gallery in the Carson City Courthouse. Check out the new exhibit and hear from the artist, Jeff Hantman, tonight at the opening reception. Laugh it up with Ester Steinberg at Carson Comedy in the Nugget or head to the Brewery Arts Center for an evening of Improv with special guests the Reno Improv Group.

The Carson City Symphony, conducted by David Bugli, will be joined by jazz singer Madeline Eastman for "On the Jazzy Side," a concert on Sunday, Feb. 28.

"Fresh, arresting and electric" are the words that have been used to describe our featured guest soloist Madeline Eastman who has long been heralded for her vocal gifts, interpretive savvy, and irrepressible sense of adventure while performing her bold interpretations of The Great American Songbook.

Banda Magda mixes a little samba with French chanson, a little Greek folk with Columbian cumbia and Afro-Peruvian lando, all blending perfectly for a lively midcentury pop experience. This band’s globally- influenced music is highly energetic, funny, colorful and crosses into multiple languages.

Western Nevada College has named 312 students to the Fall 2015 Dean’s List. For consideration to WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher. Honorees are:

Night in the Country will celebrate its 15th year as Nevada's longest-running country music festival with the largest lineup in its history, featuring some of the biggest country artists in the world including headliners Tyler Farr, Chase Rice and Kip Moore. The festival, set for July 21 – 23 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Yerington, has also added Phil Vassar and Josh Abbott Band to the 2016 lineup.

Let's kick this weekend off with some live music. Ten Dollar Pony playing at Living the Good Life, Terri and Craig at Glen Eagles, or the Matt W. Gage Band at Sassafras are just a few options. Go country at Carson Lanes with dancing with DJ Cowboy Bobby.

Tickets for TEDx Carson City 2016 with the theme, Creating the Community you Want to Live In, will go on sale Monday.

Organizer Gina Hill said the goal for Carson City’s TEDx is to unite listeners in a common vision of creating a community that all would want to live in. She hopes it is transformational.

It’s finally Friday, my fellow Carsonistas.
