Carson City Sheriff's Office seeks Relay for Life walkers, runners for team
On Saturday July 11th, 2015, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” to be held at Mill’s Park from noon to midnight. Team leaders Chief Sharon Daniels and Deputy Kip Lee who are recovering cancer survivors are looking for additional walkers and runners to join their team during this most worthwhile event.
The American Cancer Society “Relay for Life” is the world's largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. Today, with the support of thousands of volunteers like you, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 400 lives a day. And we won't stop until we finish the fight against cancer!
To join the Sheriff’s Office Team, contact Sharon Daniels or Kip Lee at 887-2500 or go to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Team link here.
Join us and help put an end to cancer!
The 2015 Carson City Relay For Life is scheduled for Saturday, July 11 at Mills Park in Carson City. The event kicks off at noon with featured speakers including Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, a cancer survivor. Music for the Opening Ceremony will be by The Whiskey Heroes with the Luminary Ceremony featuring Carson City singer Molly Seals beginning at 9 p.m.
Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event. The Carson City Relay For Life is the local affiliate of the national Relay For Life, which raises money and awareness in the battle against cancer. Go to the Carson City Relay for Life webpage here and Facebook page here.
During Saturday's Survivor Lap, all cancer survivors at the event take the first lap around the track, celebrating their victory over cancer while cheered on by the other participants who line the track. Relay For Life events also recognize and celebrate caregivers, who give time, love, and support to their friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers facing cancer.
Relay For Life participants and donors remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor those battling the disease by dedicating luminaria bags.
Luminaria bags are transformed and illuminated after dark at every local Relay For Life event. Each luminaria is personalized with a name, photo, message or drawing in memory or honor of a friend or loved one who has been affected by cancer. Luminaria can also be dedicated in support of a Relay participant. Each luminaria candle represents a person. They are our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers, and so many others.
