One might think that the end of summer means that the fun times are over: they would be wrong. This list of happenings in the Carson City area isn’t getting any shorter. The annual Genoa Candy Dance is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and this weekend welcomes the first ever Silver State Arts Festival at Fuji Park, as well. The first ever Community Garage Sale at the Community Center offers one-stop bargain hunting. Swing into the season at the monthly dance party hosted by the High Sierra Swing Dance Club.

You’ll see some pretty interesting vehicles on the road these next few days, as travelers from all over head to Burning Man. If you aren’t off to the Playa yourself, there will be plenty of fun around town to keep you and your family occupied. The second annual Family Fun Day in Mills Park is your best bet for kids of all ages. This week’s free concert at Brewery Arts Center features the Dusty Green Bones. Don’t forget your dancing shoes; they’re sure to keep you on your feet.

Silver City, Nevada- United Way's annual "Tune into Kids" Fun Fair for preschoolers and their parents takes place Tuesday, August 22 from 10am to noon at the Silver City town park (next to the Silver City School House/community center at 385 High Street.) Silver City is located on the Comstock, 3 miles from Virginia City and 12 miles from Carson City.

A sunny summer weekend has arrived and it brings numerous fun ways to seize the day. You can always head out hiking or spend the day at the pool, but the Carson City Fair is just here until Sunday. Farm animals, great exhibits, live entertainment, a carnival, and a bull-riding rodeo can be found at Fuji Park. Park your car at the Super Walmart on Topsy and you’ll be treated to a free shuttle. Go a little bit country at the Brewery Arts Center tonight; they are bringing back the Southern Drawl Band to the Minnesota Street Stage for this week’s free concert.

It’s almost like Christmas Day for some of us locals: the long awaited Taste of Downtown has finally arrived. Food, drink, live music, rubbing elbows with friends and neighbors, and a new wine-tasting add-on make this one of the best parties of the year. The morning brings an unparalleled opportunity: you’ve got one chance to walk, run, or bike right down the middle of the freeway before the new bypass is open to vehicle traffic alone. Grab your favorite four-legged friend and head to Adele’s: Dining for Dog Town is a delicious way to help out this amazing rescue organization.

It is going to be a beautiful Tuesday: toasty, but not too hot, and with a nice afternoon breeze. As the summer goes along, kids get a little antsy. Take your grade schooler up to Silver City for their annual Bike Safety Rodeo and you’ll leave confident that they know the rules of the road. Hit the dance floor tonight. You can learn some beginning swing dance moves at El Charro Avita. Grab your partner and head to Carson Lanes for lessons in country line dancing and a good time with DJ Cowboy Bobby Truesdale.

TUESDAY:

Silver City, Nevada - Silver City Arts group is sponsoring “Outsider Show: Molly Brunhild Paintings,” at the Silver City School House (community center) at 385 High Street. The exhibit will feature the artist’s current work as well as work from earlier periods. The public is cordially invited to a free reception, which includes light refreshments and an opportunity to meet Molly Brunhild, on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 from 1pm-5pm.

Let the good times roll, Carson City. Cars, chrome, choppers, and kruzers are in abundance. Run Whatcha Brung at Fuji Park is open to any and all cars that can get themselves there. The Rockabilly Riot and T Bucket Alliance at Mills Park is an American Graffiti flashback. Cheer on our local motorcycle cops at the Extreme Motor Challenge, or hop on your own bike and go on a poker run with the Lords of Iron Motorcycle Club.

SILVER CITY — Each summer since 2003, the historic Comstock community of Silver City has partnered with Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey to organize a free, public program with guest teachers leading fun, hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).

Fire up that grill, Carson City, we’ve got the perfect weather to kick off the summer. The early Farmers Market at Musser and Nevada offers the perfect finishing touches to any picnic or bar-be-que. It’s all aboard for train lovers: the V&T begins its runs to Virginia City this weekend and the historic Glenbrook Engine is all steamed up at the Railroad Museum. Silver City, Nevada - Silver City, a community located in Lyon County within the historic Comstock region near Virginia City, always has a busy schedule of unique arts and culture events for the public. Below are highlights of some upcoming winter and spring events.

A group of citizens from Silver City, NV and communities close by, formed a citizen action committee called the Silver City Small Actions Committee (SCSAC) to address local, state and national issues precipitated by the November 2016 general election.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for clear skies, but there are rumors of snow flurries. Luckily there are indoor and outdoor activities, no matter what blows our way. At the top of the list for today is Winter, Wine, Spirits, and All That Jazz at the Brewery Arts Center. Their annual fundraiser is not to be missed.

I hope you got your fill of naps last weekend because this weekend is chock full of fun to be had for all. You can Wine Walk until you Holiday Crawl downtown. Take your pick of craft shows in town. Kids won’t want to miss the Santa Train at the State Railroad Museum or one of the two performances of ‘The Peanutcracker’ at the Community Center. Whether you’d like to spend the days indoors or out, there is something for all ages in the Carson City area this weekend.

The turkeys have been cooked, the dishes done, and the largest shopping weekend of the year is off and running. Show some love locally during Shop Small Business Saturday. Gift Certificates are never a bad way to go either: who wouldn’t want a massage, a night on the town, or maybe some music lessons? Hold onto your broomstick, this weekend is bound to sweep you up in Halloween fun. First you’ll need a pumpkin. The Harvest Train Festival and Pumpkin Patch at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to start. The event It is a fundraiser for the School House, Silver City Arts and the new outdoor venue in the Silver City Park called the Silver Pavilion.

Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally. Battle Born Harley on Research Way offers a huge party without ever leaving the valley. Those two events are hardly all that Carson City and our neighboring counties have to offer, however. The first annual Northern Nevada Family Fun Day takes over Mills Park with music, a kids zone, activities, food, raffles, and much more. Check out the Bowling Blast Off at Carson Lanes for a Car Show, bowling specials, and fun. Once the sun sets, Washoe Lake State Park offers a basic astronomy lesson and some celestial viewing. SILVER CITY, Nev. — The "Silver Pavilion" Inaugura- Palooza concert on August 20th was a big success with at least 150 folks from near and far in attendance during the 6 hour event. The festival style public event was held to celebrate the much anticipated addition of a new outdoor stage to the region's arts and music scene.

I really hope I’m not required to choose a favorite event. I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. In addition to 'The Taste', the Brewery Arts Center goes country with the Southern Drawl Band on its outdoor stage, and Madam Curry leads another downtown Ghost Walk. Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Don’t think that’s all our valley has to offer, though, keep reading for all this weekend’s fun.

Midnight Madness has descended upon the valley, bringing with it a 72 hour softball tournament at Centennial Park. Don’t be surprised to see more cyclists on the road: an unofficial pre-ride for Epic Rides is this weekend. Head to the Nevada State Railroad Museum to see the Glenbrook all steamed up.
