A community policing citizens academy program of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, through the development of the Volunteers in Police Service Program, will run from August to October, officials announced Monday.

UPDATE 1:41PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirms the pilot was unconscious briefly following the crash and has been flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno via Care Flight. He was conscious when he left Carson City on Care Flight, said Furlong. The plane did not have any passengers.
