New security gate to be activated at Carson City rifle and pistol range
The Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department would like to advise all users of the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range of the activation of an automatic security gate beginning on Friday evening, March 17.
This gate is located on Rifle Range Road approximately one mile from the City’s Rifle and Pistol Range. It will automatically close at dusk and re-open at dawn.
The gate’s installation and its hours of operation are to protect the facility from vandalism along with controlling unauthorized access, inappropriate uses, and illegal dumping after dark. The solar powered gate is equipped with in-road sensor loops that will open the gates after dark to allow users to leave the facility if the gate has closed. These same sensors are also programmed to deny any vehicle re-entry into this facility after dark.
The gate was funded through an $18,708 grant from the Nevada Department of Wildlife Hunter Education/Shooting Range Program, a $5,000 contribution from the Sheriff’s Office and the City’s Quality of Life (Q18) Parks Capital Program.
Carson City Sheriff, Ken Furlong states, “The Carson City range is one of the most precious resources in the community, often resulting in waiting times for visitors to enjoy the experience. In keeping with the vision of the Parks, Recreation, & Open Space Department and the broad range upgrade designs that will enhance the facilities, the Sheriff’s Office committed itself to doing our part to help protect and preserve the environment. With the enhanced entry gate, we hope that we can move forward with improved facilities that will continue to encourage our users to come here and enjoy their sports.”
For questions on gate operation or to report illegal dumping at the Rifle and Pistol Range please contact the Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department at (775) 887-2262. To report inappropriate activities or nighttime use contact non-emergency dispatch at (775) 887-2677.
