Elks Lodge celebrates Carson City Search and Rescue with $2,500 grant

On Friday night, the local Elks Lodge chapter hosted a sold-out dinner and fundraiser event in support of the Carson City Search and Rescue volunteers.

The program included a a live auction, raffle drawing, and presentation of the Elks National Foundation grant of $2,500. These Gratitude Grants are used to support local, charitable activities such as hosting a community clean-up day, purchasing supplies for a homeless shelter, or organizing a school literacy fair.

The Elks Lodge is celebrating 150 years of service.

Join Carson City Sheriff’s Search and Rescue at Firehouse Subs on Wednesday night, Oct. 23 from 5 to 9 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from the meal sales will go to benefit CCSSAR, helping to fund ongoing training and equipment costs. Enjoy some great food and talk with the SAR team. Carson City SAR willl also have a few of its vehicles on display for those wishing to learn more about what they do.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office host annual Fright Night at Fairgrounds weekends in October

MINDEN — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is hosting their third annual “Fright at the Fairground" during the month of October. The event will be offered at the Douglas County Fairgrounds located off Pinenut Road in Gardnerville and will run every Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening through the month of October.

UPDATE: Missing Carson City elderly woman found safe after spending night outside

UPDATE: 7:24 AM: Carson City Sheriff's Office SAR reports the missing elderly woman has been located. She is safe and will be evaluated by Carson City Fire Department. She was found, outside, north of the Carson Plaza Senior Independent Living residence off of East Long Street.

Body of victim in apparent drowning recovered Monday at Lake Tahoe

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit 7 recovered a body from a depth of 1,062 feet in Lake Tahoe on Monday. The recovery was made while searching for a missing person, who reportedly drowned the week prior. The identity of the person has been withheld until the family has been notified.

Helicopter finds missing Tahoe hiker Sunday in Douglas County, hiker also found safe Saturday

Two hikers reported missing were found, one Saturday and the other early Sunday morning in the Lake Tahoe area by search and rescue teams from Douglas County and outside agencies.

Upper Colony Road Fire in Smith Valley more than 1,180 acres, sixth brush fire in Lyon County since June 2

UPDATE: 8:42AM: From Lyon County Facebook page: Lyon County had its 6th wildfire since June 2. The Upper Colony burned more than 1,000 acres on June 17, 2018. A Type 3 Incident Management Team took the fire over at 8 p.m.
The Smith Valley Fire District did an outstanding job working the fire and bringing in resources. Over 300 people fought this fire with 25 Engines, 3 Helicopters, 8 fixed wing aircraft, and 4 hand crews.

Lyon County opened a shelter at the Smith Valley Baptist Church. LCSO managed evacuations with the assistance of SAR and Douglas County. The Large Animal Rescue Team assisted with sheltering livestock.

Missing snowmobile rider found dead on Tahoe Rim Trail near Spooner Summit

On Thursday, March 29 at approximately 4:50 p.m., deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Tahoe Rim Trail at Spooner Summit for a reported missing person.

Stranded skiers rescued, cited after going outside Tahoe resort boundaries

Two skiers who became lost Thursday after skiing out of bounds were rescued, one Thursday night and the other plucked Friday morning by a Blackhawk helicopter from NAS Fallon, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Both skiers were wet and cold but otherwise escaped injuries.

Three found by Carson City search team after spending night stuck near Brunswick Canyon

Three men in two vehicles were rescued early Monday morning by Carson City Search and Rescue after being stuck overnight south of Brunswick Canyon near Sunrise Pass.

The men were found safe and healthy despite having minimal provisions, said SAR public information officer Bill “Fergi” Fergus. They managed to stay warm by having the engines run in their vehicles.

Search and Rescue finds Tahoe skier who went missing, citation given

A South Lake Tahoe man was issued a citation Saturday for skiing out of bounds at Heavenly Mountain Resort after a search and rescue was deployed when he was reported missing.

The man was found safe and not hurt at 8:52 p.m. Saturday after he was reported missing late that afternoon, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office late that afternoon, said Sgt. Pat Brooks.

UPDATE 1:07PM: An 83-year-old man was rescued late Tuesday morning after being out overnight in the snow in Brunswick Canyon. He was found by a search and rescue team, flown out of by a Washoe County RAVEN helicopter, and then taken by Care Flight. He is in serious condition with hypothermia, said Bill Fergus, Vice Commander of Carson City Search and Rescue.

Search and Rescue operation at Kings Canyon; man says he's been stuck for three days

UPDATE 1:35PM: A man stuck up Kings Canyon has been rescued, according to Carson City dispatch. The man is said to be suffering from cold exposure and was treated by a Carson City fire and rescue ambulance team at the Nevada Department of Transportation substation at the top of Spooner Summit. He was taken to the hospital.

A search and rescue operation is underway this afternoon in the Kings Canyon area. According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, the man told dispatch that he has been stuck up in the canyon with a vehicle for three days and says he may have frostbite.

Lyon County investigators continue investigation into disappearance of Alea Clark

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation into the disappearance of Alea Clark who was reportedly last seen in the Dayton area on Jan. 6, 2015.

Pursuant to this investigation, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant on Wednesday, Jan. 14 on a Dayton home in the 200 block of Grosh Avenue. Her current residence is in California but she had been in the Dayton and Silver Springs area visiting family and friends when she disappeared.

Plane wreckage found in Douglas County, 2 dead

Wreckage from an airplane that has been missing since early this week was found Thursday afternoon in the Pine Nut Mountains in southern Douglas County, authorities confirm.

At 2:20 pm the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue with the assistance from Lyon County Search and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff’s Helicopter (Raven) and Civil Air Patrol, located the missing aircraft.

Two kayakers spent Father's Day on the Carson River. A father and son combination put their kayaks into the water near Bertonelli's pit around 2:30pm and left their vehicle at the Santa Maria Ranch Park in Dayton. They got caught up many times on rocks and low water areas and soon found themselves in the dark and unable to continue.
