Victims identified in fatal boating accident at Topaz Lake
UPDATE 5 PM: MINDEN — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has identified those involved involved in a fatal boating accident that happened Saturday at Topaz Lake.
The deceased have been identified as Bert Pederson, 45, of Sparks. The body of Jesse Gregory, 50, was recovered Sunday by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Marine 7 and SAR units, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Specialized Vehicle Unit (SUV) and their HASTY Dive Team, and Wardens from the Nevada Department of Wildlife. At approximately 1:30 p.m. Marine 7’s ROV located the body of Gregory at a depth of 22 feet.
The surviving fisherman, Scott Wise, was located and released after being treated at Carson Valley Medical Center.
The cause of this boating accident remains under investigation by the Nevada Department of Wildlife.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the boat with three aboard capsized.
Topaz Campground and Park remains closed until further notice as soon as the investigation is completed.
