Elks Lodge celebrates Carson City Search and Rescue with $2,500 grant
On Friday night, the local Elks Lodge chapter hosted a sold-out dinner and fundraiser event in support of the Carson City Search and Rescue volunteers.
The program included a a live auction, raffle drawing, and presentation of the Elks National Foundation grant of $2,500. These Gratitude Grants are used to support local, charitable activities such as hosting a community clean-up day, purchasing supplies for a homeless shelter, or organizing a school literacy fair.
The Elks Lodge is celebrating 150 years of service.
According to the Elks website, the Gratitude Grant is designed to serve communities in ways that will raise the Lodge's profile, energize membership, encourage former members to return to the fold, and gain the notice of people who want to be part of an organization doing big things.
These fundraisers such as the one Friday night are important because Carson City Search and Rescue is a nonprofit agency and donations are critical, otherwise SAR would be funded by tax payer money.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong and Mayor Bob Crowell were in attendance and spoke at the event.
