It’s almost like Christmas Day for some of us locals: the long awaited Taste of Downtown has finally arrived. Food, drink, live music, rubbing elbows with friends and neighbors, and a new wine-tasting add-on make this one of the best parties of the year. The morning brings an unparalleled opportunity: you’ve got one chance to walk, run, or bike right down the middle of the freeway before the new bypass is open to vehicle traffic alone. Grab your favorite four-legged friend and head to Adele’s: Dining for Dog Town is a delicious way to help out this amazing rescue organization.

What to do, what to do? That’s the question that starts most every weekend. If you’ve got kids, test their mettle at the annual Capitol City Triathlon. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.

I hope your dancing shoes are handy because the music will have you on your feet. Local favorites, Jelly Bread, take the stage at McFadden Plaza as part of the Fridays at the Fox series. Start the weekend with some belly laughs: either with Kevin Farley at the Brewery Arts Center or with Mrs. John Hughes at the Carson Nugget. Break a leg to our talented friends and neighbors participating in this year’s Senior Follies. ‘As Seen On TV’ marks the twentieth year the variety show has showcase local talent.

The Carson City Senior Center presents the 20th annual Senior Follies this weekend at the Bob Boldrick theater, with shows Friday evening at 7 p.m. and matinee performances Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Due to last-minute high demand for Reserved Seating tickets for Concert Under the Stars, A Benefit for The Greenhouse Project, with headliners The Family Stone with Lydia Pense & Cold Blood, all tickets will remain on sale at www.carsoncitygreenhouse.org or in person at Carson City Visitors Bureau and Brewery Arts Center Box Office.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team arrested a 24-year-old man on felony drug charges after a traffic stop for driving with a broken headlight, a Carson City sheriff’s sergeant said.

With fire danger worsening around Western Nevada and the upcoming July 4 holiday period, law enforcement and fire agencies are warning people not to ignite fireworks. Not only are they potentially dangerous and could touch off wildfires, but they’re also illegal.

Several Carson City businesses recently passed compliance checks when minors tried to buy tobacco or alcohol.

At a public workshop on June 20, 2017, the City Manager expressed the opinion that Carson City would be relinquishing control of its fate to the Reno City Council if it elects to prohibit the sale of recreational marijuana within its borders and that the cost of dealing with marijuana consumption within our jurisdiction (because of its availability in Washoe County) cannot be adequately offset without the ability to collect taxes on new retail pot sales.

Should Carson City allow retail sales of recreational marijuana? That was the essential question debated Tuesday at a public workshop at the Carson City Community Center hosted by the city.

A Carson City District Court judge granted a preliminary injunction Tuesday that may temporarily halt plans for the retail sale of recreational marijuana in Nevada that was to begin July 1.

IRS Code Section 1411 charges 3.8 percent additional Medicare tax on unearned income of high earning taxpayers. That surtax is called “unearned income Medicare contribution tax” or the “Net Investment Income Tax.” It is in addition to the regular income tax.

The full lineup for the 2017 Night in the Country Music Festival, set for July 27-29, has been released. The weekend will bring headliners Thomas Rhett, Justin Moore supported by Drake White and The Big Fire, Craig Morgan, Michael Ray and Tucker Beathard as well as many others.

This year's show ‘Legends Are Forever’ is going to be our biggest and most entertaining to date. Our theme is about legendary icons such as singers, composers, ballets, bands and children's favorites that have given us inspiration to dance.

"We have split our recital into 3 separate shows, hoping to give our audiences an enjoyable experience watching different levels of dancers perform excellent choreography with passion, technique and the Love of Dance,” said Joan Elias Forever Dance’s Artistic Director/Owner.
