Seeliger Elementary School is hosting theirs for the twenty-fifth year in a row. Take a trip on the V and T Steam Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum, actually take several trips. The annual Harvest Train event offers an all-day wristband that allows for as many rides as you’d like, in addition to museum admission. The Carson City Girls Scouts will host a rummage sale this Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with proceeds to benefit Girls Scouts affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.

The Carson Nugget is a hotbed of activity tonight for the over 21 crowd. Catch Johnny Steele at Carson Comedy or flashback to the eighties in ‘The Loft’ as New Wave Craze takes to the stage. Break a leg to the cast of ‘Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe.’ The Proscenium Players’ newest production opens tonight in the Brewery Arts Center’s Black Box Theater.

My Custom Saddlery Wolfgang Expression dressage saddle was stolen from Franktown Meadows Equestrian Facility in Washoe Valley, NV between Monday, Sept. 18th and Tuesday, Sept. 19th, 2017. This saddle is made of black buffalo leather with silver metallic piping and a black patent leather cantle. It measures a 17.5” seat. The serial #11762 is stamped on the left side under the flap.

My daily list of activities might be called ‘things to do in Carson City,’ but I frequently include happenings from the surrounding valleys. Today, it’s the Thirsty Third Thursday wine walk in downtown Gardnerville that gets the spotlight. Dayton’s weekly Farmers Market can be found this afternoon in front of ‘Community Roots’ on Highway 50. It’s probably past patio weather, but there is plenty of room inside of Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar for all of tonight’s karaoke lovers.

Rather than drive all over town looking for garage sales, stop by the Carson City Community Center this Saturday for the inaugural Carson City Community Garage sale hosted by the city's Department of Parks, Recreation and Open Space.

CHS opened its doors a little longer, a little wider, and totally unplugged for Sept. 11-17, 2017. Students and staff participated in daily activities supporting and encouraging a non-digital learning environment. Each day, five standards of Social and Emotional Learning were touched by encouraging students to power-down their phones and unplug.

Enjoy these September days, it will be blustery and cold before we know it. Celebrate our neighbor to the east during their annual Dayton Valley Days street festival. Tour their museums, pan for gold, and enjoy samples at their Chili cook-off. Downtown Carson is a hotbed of fun tonight with two pub crawls and the Ghost Walk Haunted History Tour. I’m going to suggest that you keep this weekend’s plans flexible. There’s only a chance of rain, but the chance of it showing up at the wrong time is always high. The very early morning is best spent watching the hot air balloons against the Reno skyline, but you’ll probably want a sweater for the pre-dawn chill. Head up the hill to Virginia City this weekend. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada is having its yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will be in the museum’s parking lot located at 813 North Carson Street, Carson City.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Children’s Museum which is a nonprofit receiving no federal or state funding. We have received generous donations from the community of clothing, furniture, household items, artwork and many vintage items. We welcome all to come.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will host its first Community Garage Sale on Sept. 23, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are invited to participate as either a buyer or a seller.

The 2017 pine nut harvest season kicks off on lands managed by the Nevada Bureau of Land Management and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Both agencies are working together to ensure the public is safely harvesting pine nuts and aware of the regulations.
