Carson City sheriff’s arrests: Jail inmates booked on conspiracy charges

An inmate at Carson City Jail and a suspect in a burglary case were each booked on gross misdemeanor charges of conspiracy to commit burglary after they allegedly plotted to burglarize a Menlo Drive residence, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City Special Enforcement Team deputy received information at 10 p.m. March 23 from the jail regarding a 33-year-old inmate serving time for being an ex-felon failing to register and possessing a firearm while being a convicted felon. He had been in contact with a suspect in a recent commercial burglary case, who is also an ex-felon, convicted of robbery with a deadly weapon.

Investigators learned the man in jail had asked the suspect in the burglary to break into the Menlo Drive residence and steal a safe, a firearm and “lots of other things we like,” according to the arrest report.

Each were booked Friday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary charges with $2,500 bail each, according to the arrest report.

In other bookings: A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 1:46 a.m. in the 4500 block of Muldoon Street on misdemeanor charges of DUI, hit and run causing property damage, violation of bail conditions and minor consuming alcohol.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area of Clearview and Muldoon in reference to a hit and run crash with damage to a power box and a street sign.

A deputy met with the homeowners who said they heard a loud crash and went outside to see dust in the air and the power box damaged. The roadway marks and damage indicated the suspect's vehicle went westbound on Clearview and turned southbound on Muldoon. The vehicle failed to negotiate the turn and hit a stop sign and the power box on the southeast corner of the intersection, the arrest report states.

The power box was moved off its foundation and had exposed wires. Power was out at the home of the reporting witness and several homes in the neighborhood. The street sign was pulled out of the ground and was on its side. There was a black scuff mark on the power box. NV Energy responded and a technician noted there was upward of $10,000 damage to the power box due to the crash, the arrest report states.

Deputies searched in the area for the vehicle that was involved. In the 4500 block of Muldoon Street, deputies found the suspect standing next to his truck. They observed he was unsteady on his feet and had red, watery eyes, slurred speech and had a strong odor of alcohol.

The suspect denied he had been driving, telling deputies he had been home all day. His truck had fresh damage consistent with the damage to the power box. The vehicle hood was warm to the touch indicating recent use. Inside the vehicle were several alcohol containers. There was an area next to the cup holder that was wet and smelled of alcohol, the arrest report states.

The suspect told officers he is the only one to have keys to the truck and he is the only one who drives it. He then told deputies that he left the house and went to his old apartment but returned before the crash took place, the report states.

The suspect was uncooperative and tried to walk away from deputies. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI, minor consuming and hit and run with property damage. He submitted to a preliminary breath test with a result of .183. He is on Alternative Sentencing with an “obey all laws” clause. Alternative Sentencing was contacted and they requested charges of violation of bail conditions.

At jail he refused to sign the consent for evidentiary testing after initially giving consent to a blood draw. A telephonic search warrant was applied for and approved by a judge for evidentiary testing. Bail: $5,016.

The suspect stated the argument was a result of the woman being upset because he was talking to her female friends and she thought he had been flirting. The victim stated the woman punched him in the face.

While speaking with the victim, the officer observed a small amount of blood on the left side of his chin, and his lip appeared to be swollen. While speaking with the victim, the suspect returned to the residence.

While speaking with the suspect, the suspect told a deputy that she was upset with her boyfriend, who she said was flirting with her friends. She stated while they were arguing she punched her boyfriend in the face. Based on the physical evident and the woman stating she punched her boyfriend in the face, she was taken into custody on suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.
