Ready for the weekend, Carson City? The weather should hold up on Saturday, but no promises on Sunday. Hit the slopes if you are so inclined, several Tahoe resorts have opened for the season. Runners should head out to Washoe Lake State Park for the first of the Be Bold, Run in the Cold series sponsored by Ascent Runs. If you prefer something warmer, head to Crossroads Lounge for their Grand Re-opening. It’s under new ownership and is sure to have something to keep you toasty.

The Nevada Day 2015 parade featured an array of costumes, characters, and organization representatives. Everything you could imagine a parade to be, with floats from the basic to the outrageous, lined Carson Street in Carson City this Saturday. Here's some more highlights.

Only in Nevada does a state throw a party in its capital city and everyone is invited. And so it is with the celebration Saturday of the Silver State's 151st birthday in Carson City.
Nevadans from north, south, east west and central make the annual pilgrimage to the state capital to honor and celebrate statehood which came, Oct. 31, 1864.

Due to Nevada Day events including a parade, Carson Street will be closed on Saturday, Oct. 31, from approximately 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Numerous side streets connected to Carson Street will be impacted as well. Amgen Tour of California, presented by AEG, announced Thursday that professional cyclists return to Lake Tahoe for the men’s Stage 5 finish, as well as the women’s Stage 1 start on Thursday, May 19, 2016. The men will take off in Lodi, Calif. and finish at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Base Lodge in South Lake Tahoe. The women will also start/finish at Heavenly Mountain Resort on May 19.

Carson City School District teacher expertise will be on display at the National Science Teacher Association area conference on science education Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 22- 24, at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

UPDATE: The Light after Dark Walk/Run scheduled at Riverview Park in Carson City tonight has been canceled due to the dangerous conditions of the track from the bad weather. Former Carson City District Attorney Neil Rombardo has been named Chief General Council for the Washoe County School District, officials announced Tuesday. The district also hired a new police chief.

Light after Dark 5K/10K Walk/Run is to help raise awareness for domestic violence and sexual assault by lighting the way. Bringing light to domestic violence and sexual assault is our goal for the Light after Dark Walk/Run. We want victims and survivors to know that there is LIGHT AFTER DARK.

The race is Saturday, Oct. 17th at 6:00pm at Riverview Park in Carson City. This year’s event is being dedicated in memory of Kirsten Krasovec, a Carson City woman whose life was taken at the hands of domestic violence.

The second annual Lake Tahoe Flume Trail Fall Classic Half Marathon, a point-to-point race from Spooner State Park to Tunnel Creek Station, will be Saturday.

“You’ll have spectacular views,” said organizer Kevin Bigley, owner of Ascent Physical Therapy. “It’s a world-famous trail for a reason.”

Nathanael Williams, Colorado Mines Junior and former Sierra Lutheran High School Falcon, has been named the NCAA Division II National Athlete of the Week (Week of September 21, 2015). In addition, he was also named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week (Week of September 21, 2015), and the Colorado Mines’ Athlete of the Month for the month of September.
