Hit the slopes if you are so inclined, several Tahoe resorts have opened for the season. Runners should head out to Washoe Lake State Park for the first of the Be Bold, Run in the Cold series sponsored by Ascent Runs. If you prefer something warmer, head to Crossroads Lounge for their Grand Re-opening. It’s under new ownership and is sure to have something to keep you toasty.

Nevadans from north, south, east west and central make the annual pilgrimage to the state capital to honor and celebrate statehood which came, Oct. 31, 1864.

Due to Nevada Day events including a parade, Carson Street will be closed on Saturday, Oct. 31, from approximately 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Numerous side streets connected to Carson Street will be impacted as well. Detours will be signed.

2016 Amgen Tour of California returns to Lake Tahoe for men, women stage races
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/22/2015 - 12:06pmAmgen Tour of California, presented by AEG, announced Thursday that professional cyclists return to Lake Tahoe for the men’s Stage 5 finish, as well as the women’s Stage 1 start on Thursday, May 19, 2016. The men will take off in Lodi, Calif. and finish at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Base Lodge in South Lake Tahoe. The women will also start/finish at Heavenly Mountain Resort on May 19.

Light after Dark Walk/Run to raise awareness for domestic violence and sexual assault

Bringing light to domestic violence and sexual assault is our goal for the Light after Dark Walk/Run. We want victims and survivors to know that there is LIGHT AFTER DARK.
The race is Saturday, Oct. 17th at 6:00pm at Riverview Park in Carson City. This year’s event is being dedicated in memory of Kirsten Krasovec, a Carson City woman whose life was taken at the hands of domestic violence.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will continue bridge maintenance on the Carson City Freeway (I-580) with nightly lane closures and intermittent on and off ramp closures during weeknights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Race Saturday to traverse historic Flume Trail above Lake Tahoe

“You’ll have spectacular views,” said organizer Kevin Bigley, owner of Ascent Physical Therapy. “It’s a world-famous trail for a reason.”

In addition, he was also named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week (Week of September 21, 2015), and the Colorado Mines’ Athlete of the Month for the month of September.
