NHP: 13-year-old girl in serious condition in crosswalk crash on South Carson Street

A 13-year-old Carson Middle School girl remains in serious condition after an accident Tuesday afternoon at a South Carson Street crosswalk, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Two dead, 2 critically injured in Sparks crash involving wrong way driver on Interstate 80

Two people died and two are injured in a head-on crash early Saturday on Interstate 80 involving a vehicle going the wrong way near Sparks Boulevard, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded at 3:15 a.m. to the crash west of Sparks Boulevard, involving a 1990 Mazda pickup driven by an adult male driver along with a male passenger who were traveling the wrong direction, going westbound in the eastbound travel lanes of I-80, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of family.

NHP: One seriously injured in Dayton crash Monday

A Fallon man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday on Highway 50 at the intersection of Pine Cone Road in Dayton. The man's wife sustained moderate injuries. Both were taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno via Care Flight, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Carson City's Mile High Summer Jazz band camp begins June 1

Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School, is starting a new, one-week Jazz Camp, with sessions for middle- and high-school musicians, June 1-5, in the band room at Carson Middle School, 1140 W King St in Carson City. In part three of this series, we will discuss the foster kids that CASA Volunteers work with. Foster kids are just that, kids. They are tall, short, fat, skinny and average sized. They have blonde, brown, black, red hair and blue, brown, hazel eyes. They have olive, freckled, light complexions. They love sports, animals, music and cartoons. They want to grow up to be doctors, fireman, models, and astronauts. They are kids.

USDA Rural Development Nevada is reminding rural nonprofits, public bodies and Tribes that the deadline to apply for USDA's new Rural Business Development Grant is May 15.

Measles Immunization Coverage Rates Increase in Nevada

Immunize Nevada shared an important statistic Thursday from the Nevada State Division of Public and Behavioral Health: According to data from Nevada WebIZ, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and MMR-V (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella) vaccination coverage rates jumped 23 percent in the first quarter of 2015, compared to the same period in 2014.

Officials attribute the increase, at least in part, to the high-profile measles outbreak that was linked to Disneyland, along with reported cases in Nevada and many other states between December 28, 2014 through April 24 of this year.

Can you believe that it’s the last day of April? The last few months have zipped right along while we were waiting for winter, but now it’s time to start embracing spring before summer arrives. The annual Genoa Cowboy Festival kicks off tonight with a Barn Dance and Bar-be-que, and Virginia City hosts its famous Chili on the Comstock competition this weekend, but Carson City has a great line up of fun for you, as well, this weekend. Start out with some great live music tonight with the Trippin King Snakes at Carson Cigar Co., Chris Costa at Living the Good Life, or Glen Eagle’s regulars, Terri Campillo and Craig Fletcher.
