CASA of Carson City Info Series: Pt 1
What is a CASA Volunteer?
Have you ever wondered about CASA Volunteers and exactly what it is they do?
CASA Volunteers spend time with children in foster care. They get to know the children. They learn about their lives, both before and during the time they are in state care. The CASA will talk to the children's teachers, relatives, clergy, and other adults who are in the children's life. They learn about the children's progress in school and their social skills. They learn about the children's medical history. All this and more. Volunteer advocates - empowered directly by the courts - offer judges the critical information they need to ensure that each child's rights and needs are being attended to while in foster care.
The most important part? Volunteers stay with children until they are placed in loving permanent homes. For many neglected children, a CASA volunteer is the only constant adult presence in their lives.
Here is a story about a CASA Volunteer & how she was the one person who made the difference in a foster child's life.
