Her teleconferenced presentation will spotlight AB186, legislation currently under consideration which if enacted will ratify the Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote. Judy Welch, program coordinator for the League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, will moderate the discussion locally.

Mile High Jazz Band presents 'Hang Ups: Big Band Jazz and Poetry' Tuesday in Carson City

The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Jakki Ford will be joined by several poets and readers on Tuesday, March 12 for an evening of big-band music and poetry on the theme "Hang Ups."

Each poem will be followed by a related big-band tune. The event will be at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. It runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Admission is $5 at the door and free for age 18 and under.

Carson City School Board meeting to discuss competitions, early release days

The Carson City School Board will host its next meeting on March 12 at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Topics to discuss will include the Superintendent’s Report, which will go over the NJROTC Orienteering Team and the report from the national competition. In addition, the Carson City High School Cheer Team and the recognition of third place winner at the USA Spirit Nationals Competition will be discussed.

Sergio Trejo Jr., a Las Vegas native and first-generation college graduate, visited several Carson City schools recently to share his inspiring story about his admittance to medical school. Trejo presented to more than 150 students.
