Carson City Parks and Rec hosts Watershed Hike, discusses upcoming educational events
This past Saturday, a group of passionate hikers braced the wind at Riverview Park for the Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department’s second annual Watershed Walk.
Fluvial Geomorphologist Lynn Zonge and CWSD Watershed Program Specialist Shane Fryer shared their extensive knowledge of the Carson River Watershed with the group.
While hiking along the Carson River, we learned how rivers behave over time and the ways those changes affect the surrounding area. We were reminded that a dynamic watershed, one that has the freedom to shape itself, betters the quality of the resources in our community.
For more information about the Carson River Watershed, visit CWSD’s website here.
Looking for more free events to get you outside? On Saturday, March 30th from 9:00am-noon, join us for a site preparation for the upcoming Carson City Community Pollinator Garden. If you like getting your hands dirty, need volunteer hours, or just really like pollinators, we need your help! While we will provide tools, gloves, and snacks, please make sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and warm clothes. Meet behind the Carson-Tahoe Cancer Center at the Foothill Garden, 1535 Medical Pkwy.
On Saturday, April 6th, the Foothill Garden will be busy again for our second annual Learn to GROW Gardening Workshop.
Learn the best gardening techniques from The Greenhouse Project, the Greenhouse Garden Center, and how gardening affects pollinators with the Great Basin Beekeepers of Nevada.
The event is from 9:00am-noon, and please register here as there is limited space.
