NDOT to resurface 'Dayton Dip' on Highway 50 this Friday
Lane closures will take place this Friday, June 16 on Highway 50 in Dayton as the Nevada Department of Transportation completes the last phase of repairs to a roadway depression, known among many as the "Dayton Dip."
Single lane closures will take place Friday between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. as highway lanes are smoothed and repaved. Eastbound U.S. 50 will be reduced to one lane during morning hours. After eastbound lanes are repaved, the single lane closure will then move to westbound lanes during afternoon and evening hours. Motorists should anticipate moderate travel delays, with the potential of single lane closures continuing through the weekend.
Over recent months, a section of highway slightly sunk directly east of Dayton Valley Road, creating dips in the driving surface.
In early May, NDOT injected 10,000 pounds of specialized polyurethane solution which automatically expanded underneath the roadway, lifting the depression approximately six inches and reinforcing and stabilizing the soil underneath. With the roadbed stabilized, NDOT is completing minor finishing work to fully smooth and repave any cracking in the highway surface caused by the roadway depression.
Drivers can also anticipate the potential of minor, short-term future lane closures on U.S. 50 near 2nd Street as Lyon County replaces a water main and sidewalks. Approximately 19,000 vehicles travel the highway every day.
