USDA offers June 12 workshop for small business, ag producers applying for energy grants
Submitted by editor on Mon, 06/02/2014 - 6:19pmUSDA Rural Development will hold a workshop June 12 to help rural small businesses and agricultural producers apply for the federal Rural Energy for America Program funds.
The workshop will be conducted via video teleconference from 9-11:30 a.m. at Cooperative Extension offices in Carson City, Ely, Eureka, Yerington, Caliente and at the Logandale Office. USDA Rural Energy Coordinator Mark Williams will lead the training from the Carson City location to help applicants understanding the REAP application process.
WNC summer term begins June 9

At Western Nevada College students can choose from a variety of classes in the upcoming eight-week summer term. Classes begin June 9 and continue through August 2, unless otherwise noted.
More than 40 courses are scheduled for the summer, including writing, communications, art, music, theater, accounting math, and more. Over a dozen online classes are also available, providing students the flexibility of earning college credit while enjoying their summer activities.

King St., Carson City. At 6:30 p.m., Clay and Cullen Mitchell will teach jitterbug, a 1940s-style swing dance and simplified version of Lindy hop. This is in preparation for the Silver Dollar Car Classic Sock Hop at the Carson Nugget on July 26. Social dance is 7:30-10 p.m. Partners are not required. Lesson $7 for HSSDC and any swing dance club members or $10 for nonmembers; dance $7 for members of swing clubs and $10 for nonmembers.

April gaming revenue climbs in Carson City, falls at Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 05/28/2014 - 7:48amCarson City area casinos saw gaming revenues increase by 1.51 percent in April, according to figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Casinos in Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville and all others except for those at Stateline Lake Tahoe that make up the Carson Valley area, report an overall gaming profit of $8,001,991 for the month of April compared to $7,883,290 in April 2013.
RSVP seeks local musicians and vendors for July 4 celebration
Submitted by editor on Tue, 05/27/2014 - 5:26pmFor the 22th year, the Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program, also known as RSVP, will sponsor the July 4th celebration at Mills Park, Carson City, July 3-6, 2014. The highlight of the event will include a spectacular Independence Day pyrotechnic display at dusk.
Local musicians and bands are encouraged to apply to play in one of four openings scheduled for Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6. All music genres are welcome but must be suitable for a family-friendly event and contain no offensive lyrics or stage show.

100th Anniversary of Krebs Peterson Mansion & Western BBQ

Built in 1914, the Krebs Peterson Mansion turns 100 this year. Join us on Saturday, July 19, for the 100th Anniversary of the Krebs Peterson Mansion and Western BBQ benefitting the Elect Jason Woodbury Carson City District Attorney campaign. The event runs from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mansion, located at 500 Mountain Street in Carson City. Applicants sought to fill open seats on Carson City visitors bureau board
Submitted by editor on Wed, 05/21/2014 - 12:20pmOne of the more politically charged boards in Carson City has three open seats. The Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants through July 1, 2014 for positions on the Carson City Visitors Bureau board.
The board oversees all tourism matters within Carson City. Meetings are held the second Monday of every month at 4 p.m. at the Community Center, Sierra Room. They have been known to be quite lively. Applicants must be willing to serve approximately six to eight hours a month.

Plans for Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music Festival underway

Last year, the Jazz and Beyond Festival featured 60 performances and over 100 performers, and organizers hope to match that accomplishment this year. Most performances are presented free to the public. Beyond jazz, the festival included bluegrass, blues, mariachi, and more.

Motorcycle Safety Classes Available in Carson City

The Basic RiderCourse is a 2.5-day class that includes classroom and on-cycle instruction. It is designed for beginners or for experienced riders who would like a refresher course on what it takes to ride safely.
Carson City man sentenced on child pornography charges
Submitted by editor on Mon, 05/05/2014 - 4:20pmA Carson City man was sentenced Monday to 19 years in prison after pleading guilty to child pornography charges, including secretly videotaping female victims in the bathrooms of his home. After prison, he faces a lifetime of probation.
Marcus Gabriel Henderson was arrested by Special Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations at his residence in Carson City in July 2013.
Nevada law officers honor their own fallen in memorial service at state capitol
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 05/01/2014 - 1:05pmThe 17th annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony was held at the capitol building grounds Thursday in Carson City. The service honored the 126 Nevada peace officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
In 1998 the memorial was dedicated on the capitol grounds in Carson City to recognize the ultimate sacrifice the officers made in service to their communities. Officers from around Nevada participated in a relay with 126 stops that began April 24 in Las Vegas and ended in Carson City in time for Thursday's ceremony.
Law enforcement run ends in Carson City with ceremony Thursday at the Nevada State Capitol

The conclusion of the 400-plus mile run is part of the events surrounding the 17th annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony. The service will honor the 126 Nevada peace officers who have been killed in the line of duty.

March gaming revenue down in Carson City, soars at South Shore Lake Tahoe

Casinos in Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville and all other areas of Douglas County except Stateline report gaming profits of $8,049,618 for the month.
Carson City Sheriff's Office to step up trail patrol in Prison Hill recreation area

Apparently, if I disagree with their definition of “true patriotism” then I am something less than a citizen or patriot incapable of defending our “rights and liberties”.
