A 74-year-old Carson City man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Thursday, 12:35 p.m. at Arrowhead and Bowers. The man allegedly hit a number of mailboxes with his vehicle.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies make multiple misdemeanor arrests Monday

A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday in the 800 block of East Long Street. He faces two failure to appear in court charges and driving on a suspended license, all misdemeanors.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy stopped the man after observing an unlicensed vehicle traveling south on Roop Street.

Carson City gaming revenue in January down 1 percent, statewide nearly 2.8 percent

Carson City area casinos report a 1 percent decrease in gaming revenue for the first month of 2014, with overall statewide figures declining nearly 3 percent compared to January 2013 figures, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Friday.

Casinos in Carson City and Carson Valley, including Minden, Gardnerville and the Topaz area, took in gaming revenue of $7,268,038 for the month compared to January 2013 which brought $7,342,100.

Little River Band to headline Carson City Concert Under the Stars benefit for Greenhouse Project

Cooperative Extension offers training in Food Safety in Horticultural Operations

RENO, Nev. – University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and the Nevada Department of Agriculture will offer an Introduction to Food Safety in Horticultural Operations training, focusing on risk management and good agricultural practices March 11. The training will provide an introduction to on-farm food-safety practices related to fruit and vegetable production. Participants will learn principles of good agricultural and handling practices.

English professor releases new book of poems, “Of Dirt and Tar”

Readers will discover “deftly-crafted narrative moments that unreel like snippets of cinema” in the poems of June Sylvester Saraceno's new book, entitled “Of Dirt and Tar.”

The second, full-length collection of poetry by Saraceno, the English department chair at Sierra Nevada College, will be released March 1 by Cherry Grove Collections, with accolades on its jacket by some of the nation's top poets.

Carson City SET officers arrest man on felony drug charges

A 27-year-old Dayton man was arrested Feb. 14, 6:31 p.m. in the area of Caroline and Valley streets in Carson City on suspicion of felony conspiracy, possession with intent to sell and transportation of heroin. Gilbert Raymond Ramirez, was being held on $35,000 bail.

According to the arrest report, officers with the Carson City Special Enforcement Team worked with a person who agreed to make a transaction while wearing a wire. The transaction would be for four "points" of heroin, which in street terms a point is .10 grams for a total of $80, the arrest report states.

Jazz and Beyond seeks volunteers for annual Carson City music festival

The "Jazz and Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" will hold a kick-off meeting for organizers and potential volunteers on Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Carson City Chamber of Commerce Conference Room, 1200 S. Carson St., Carson City. This year's festival is scheduled to run from Aug. 1 to 17 at multiple locations in Carson City.

Dennis Osborn, deputy Nevada Highway Patrol chief, will assume the duties as chief of the NHP beginning Monday. He replaces former NHP Chief Troy Abney who left the department in November 2013 after serving nearly 20 months with the agency.
The announcement was made today by Department of Public Safety Director James M. Wright.

Outdoors with Don Q: Work now to smell the roses when summer arrives

If you are like me, I would be willing to bet that by now, you are feeling trapped in your home by our winter weather.

And, as a die-hard winter addict, I love cold days, frosty nights, frigid temperatures, deep snow, thick ice, long hours of darkness and the starkness of our landscapes in the wintertime. However, I must admit that sometimes our winter season even wears me down a little bit.

So, when I am tired of browsing on the internet, playing card games on my computer and feel like the walls are closing in on me, I take some remedial action that you, too, might try.

Carson City area casinos see November gaming profits spike

Carson City area casinos saw a nice pre-holidays bump in gaming profits, posting a 7.45 percent increase in November, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Monday.

Statewide, Nevada's casinos reported a nearly 12 percent increase in November when compared to gaming figures during the same period a year ago.
