Carson City deputies make 23 arrests over holiday weekend
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/07/2014 - 11:57amThe Carson City Sheriff's Office reports 23 arrests over the holiday weekend period from Friday to Sunday, with a handful being for DUI and drug-related offenses.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says the events this weekend at Mills Park generated a huge turnout, especially among families and by and large there were no major fights or crime-related incidents at the park.

The celebratory crowds in the Stateline, Round Hill and Zephyr Cove areas of Lake Tahoe were large and with exception of a few altercations in the downtown Casino Core area, Nevada Beach and Zephyr Cove Beach, the crowd was relatively well behaved. Motorists were cooperative with the road closures and traffic control required for the fireworks display.
Man jailed following stabbing inside Lake Tahoe hotel room
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/07/2014 - 10:08amA 30-year-old San Francisco man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly stabbed another man in a Lake Tahoe hotel room Saturday morning, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Christopher Calder was arrested on suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon with bail set at $25,000. On Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 7:40 a.m., Douglas County sheriff’s deputies responded to a hotel room at a Stateline casino for a report of a stabbing, said Sgt. Pat Brooks
Deputies arrived and contacted the 29-year-old victim who said he had been stabbed in the abdomen by Calder, said Brooks.
July Jazz Under the Stars Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Courtyard Tuesday

The courtyard is adjacent to Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, which is across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. Admission is $5 general, free for age 18 and under.
"Come hear the music and dance under the stars!" said David Bugli, leader and pianist for the Mile High Jazz Band. "We'll play a great mix of your old favorites and some newer tunes.
Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through July 13
Submitted by editor on Sat, 07/05/2014 - 12:03pmHere is the Carson City area road report for the week of July 7-13, 2014. On Wednesday, July 9, the outside northbound lane on Carson Street will be closed at the intersection with Washington Street due to utility work.
There will be road work on the section of Timberline Drive between both intersections with Prospect Drive. This section will be open to local traffic only, and through traffic will be detoured onto Prospect Drive.
There will be utility work primarily in the street shoulder on weekdays at the following locations. Minimal delays are possible.

Ash Canyon to Kings Canyon Trail - Boulder Gateway Construction

Completion of this very scenic trail is expected in the late October.
Virginia City celebrates July 4 with annual parade

Carson City man jailed for allegedly forging prescription from doctor
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 07/04/2014 - 11:33amA 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 4:32 p.m. in the 500 block of East William Street on felony suspicion of forgery, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.
Robert Wayne Smith was jailed on $5,000 bail. Officers spoke with the pharmacist who received a call from a local doctor who asked the pharmacist not to fill any new prescriptions for the man as they were all forged, the arrest report states.

Man arrested by Carson City deputies on felony burglary, stolen property charges

Charles Roy Dickey, whose address is listed as homeless, was jailed on three felony charges, including burglary, possession of stolen property and a failure to appear warrant issued in March out of Clark County District Court.

Medical marijuana zoning on tap for Carson City Supervisors

The board voted 4 to 1 in favor of zoning changes that allow for medical marijuana establishments in zoned areas. Go here for the full story.

NDOT to finish Mt. Rose repave project ahead of schedule

Paving work from the base of the highway at South Virginia Street to Timberline Drive in the Montreux area should be finished in time for the July 4 holiday weekend with some with minor roadside enhancement work over the next few weeks, said NDOT spokeswoman Meg Ragonese.
