Opening day of fishing in California is Saturday, April 26 and while thousands of anglers will be looking for their own sweet spots along rivers, lakes, reservoirs and streams, there is little doubt that most favorite waterways have been affected by the ongoing drought.

In conjunction with National Police Week, Thursday, May 1, 2014 the 17th Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony takes place on the Capitol grounds in Carson City, Thursday, May 1.

The service will honor the 126 Nevada Peace Officers that have been killed in the line of duty. In 1998, the memorial was dedicated on the Capitol grounds to recognize the ultimate sacrifice these officers made in service of their communities.

Lucas Oil adds second off road race at Wild West Motorsports Park

The Wild West Motorsports Park will host two Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series events this summer, showcasing northern Nevada as a premier racing site and giving fans double the action.

The Lucas Oil Series announced that Wild West Motorsports Park will host weekend races May 30-31 in addition to the race planned for Aug. 22-23. Carson City sheriff's deputies make three misdemeanor-related arrests overnight

A 19-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Wednesday morning in the 1200 block of Crain Street on misdemeanor warrants of marijuana and paraphernalia possession.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy was alerted by dispatch that the woman was at her boyfriend's home on Crain Street.

Officers went to the address and the woman was taken into custody at 3:26 a.m. based on the warrant issued April 7, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.

South Lake Tahoe fireworks back on, lawsuit settlement reached

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority announced Tuesday that an agreement has been reached to dismiss the lawsuit ensuring South Lake Tahoe’s future fireworks celebrations will continue.

“Preserving the 4th of July and Labor Day shows and keeping Lake Tahoe and its beaches clean are of the utmost importance to our community,” said LTVA Executive Director Carol Chaplin.

Safety improvements built into Highway 50 repaving plans between Carson City and Dayton

A $6-plus million repaving project along a stretch of Highway 50 east of Carson City is planned for late spring through summer with some safety improvements built into the plans, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Merge lane improvements, slope flattening, the installation of a t-intersection and turn lanes for easier access at Flint Drive and State Route 341 are scheduled as part of the safety upgrades on Highway 50 between Deer Run Road and east of SR341, said NDOT spokeswoman Meg Ragonese.

Nevada gaming revenue in February falls 14 percent, Carson City down 1.8 percent

Nevada casino gaming profits fell by nearly 14 percent in February, with Carson City area casinos seeing a 1.8 percent decrease, according to figures released Friday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Carson City area casinos, which include gaming establishments in Gardnerville, Minden and all other areas of Douglas County except Lake Tahoe, took in gaming revenue of $7,458,457 in February, compared to $7,598,406 in February 2013.
