Hello fellow anglers, Not to much fishing going on with out crazy weather patterns. But I did have a chance to venture down to the California Sport and Boat Show a couple weeks ago. If you have never been, I highly recommended you set the date for next year.

Happy Saturday Carson City, and say hello to February! That means Spring must be right around the corner! I hope so at least, because Friday’s beautiful weather was enough to make me ready to say goodbye to father winter.

Wine Walk, Super Bowl parties, standup comedy, karaoke and more: Carson City area readies for upcoming weekend

Heading into the Super Bowl weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the monthly downtown Carson City wine walk, plus karaoke at Bella Vita Bistro and Y-NOT Saloon. The Forest Service begins its first “Ski With a Ranger” at Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Mountain Resort on Friday. Combined with championship football festivities on Sunday, the Silver State is in store for a wild, good time.

Carson City Humane Society's Pet of the Week: Casper

Hello, Carson City! I hope you're ready to meet your new Pet of the Week courtesy of the Carson City Humane Society.

Say hello to Casper. Casper is a three-year-old terrier mix who was unfortunately surrendered by his owner in early December, and has been waiting for a new home ever since!

Southern Nevada resident being tested for coronavirus; 1st potential Clark County case identified

CARSON CITY — On Wednesday the Southern Nevada Health District reported the first person under investigation in Nevada for the 2019 novel coronavirus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be testing samples from the Southern Nevada resident who has been identified as a person under investigation. Currently, Nevada has no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.

Go Fund Me page established for family of Dayton man killed in Highway 50 pedestrian crash

A Go Fund Me account has been established for a Dayton man who was fatally struck in a pedestrian crash as he was returning home on an ATV on Highway 50. The incident is currently being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

A rescue at sea is always riveting, but the 2020 New Year's Eve Rescue gave me chicken skin all over. In full disclosure I have not ventured out to sea since our honeymoon when my wife did most of the fishing and I did most of the crabbing. Unless standing on shore, anchored in sand, I have no love for the sea. To me a sea cruise is being under house arrest, but with a chance of "drownding."

Man arrested for open murder, woman dies in attack at Virginia City Highlands residence

A man is being held on a charge of open murder after a woman died from injuries sustained in an attack that happened Sunday at a Virginia City Highland's home, according to the Storey County Sheriff's Office.

Carson City sheriff's investigators, SWAT search and sweep homes, teen suspects in custody

UPDATE: Four juveniles are in custody in connection to a shooting that happened Saturday night in Carson City in which two adult males suffered gunshot wounds. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said Sunday afternoon in a news releases that four juveniles have been taken into custody in relation to a shooting. Of the juveniles, ages 13-16 years, two were from Carson City and one from Douglas County. Go here for the latest update regarding the arrests.

Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators searched a Janas Way home off of Little Lane early Sunday afternoon. Law enforcement did not provide information regarding what prompted the search.

Senator Square: Carson High School's Winterfest 2020 played out nicely

Benjamin Franklin, one of the best gamers of all time said, “We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.” The adults sure could learn a thing or two from the students at CHS because Winterfest 2020 played out, pun intended, just like it was supposed to with Carson's Got Game being the theme.

Did you make a New Year’s Resolution to learn more about our community and its cultural heritage? We hope you did, but if you didn’t, it’s never too late. Kick-off 2020 by visiting the Wungnema House in Mills Park, as well as the Foreman-Roberts House on North Carson Street. These houses represent 2 different aspects of our community’s cultural heritage. Both historic houses are open from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Last week, I wrote about overwhelm and how to approach it. But, there’s one part of the process of overcoming overwhelm that will trip you up if you don’t understand it - setting priorities.

Priorities fall under a number of categories:

  • Critical priority. (Example: Something that has to be done in 24 hours, often has a consequence if not done)
  • The deadline is approaching. (Example: Hard deadline, no moving it, often has penalties for missing)

Sandra Louise Osheroff, aka Sandy, nanny, and mom, a mother, bookkeeper, dog lover and community mover and shaker, adored by many, feared by some, died of cancer on January 20, 2020 in Carson City, Nevada at the age of 82.

Nevada Rural Housing Authority announces Weatherization Scam in Lyon County has been resolved

On January 23, 2020, the Nevada Rural Housing Authority reported a complaint about an identity theft attempt in Lyon County in relation to the NRHA Weatherization Program.

Lyon County announced on Friday that the issue has been resolved.

Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell delivers his last ‘State of the City’ address

During the annual “State of the City” address Friday at Gold Dust West, Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell gave his last speech of its kind, as he is retiring at the end of this year.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.

Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.

Chinese New Year, Carson Comedy Club's military appreciation night, live music and more: Carson City region readies for weekend

Bo-Keito is a one-year-old Blue-tick Coonhound and has had a difficult time finding a forever home. He was actually adopted from the shelter, but was returned just after Christmas, which is incredibly sad.

Nevada OSHA penalties increase for workplace safety violations

The penalties for safety violations levied by the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration against employers who are not in compliance have gone up, effective Jan. 15.
