Nevada April unemployment falls to 4.7 percent

Nevada’s unemployment rate fell slightly to a seasonally adjusted 4.7 percent in April, the 67th straight month of year-over-year declines of 1 percent or more, according to figures released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Carson River history trunk will be at Dayton State Park on May 21

DAYTON, Nev. – The Carson River flows through two states, six counties and several communities before it ends in a “sink” east of Fallon.

It is one of few terminal rivers, meaning that it will never reach the ocean. Join park staff for a history trunk discussion, led by River Wrangler Linda Conlin.

The Carson River history trunk contains historical items, examples of local plants and animals, maps and photographs. Participants will take a short walk along the river and hear about the successes and challenges of preserving this precious, natural resource.

Ev Musselman rocks the stage at the Max Casino and you’ll find John and Cherie Shipley leading the jazz jam at Living the Good Life.

Take advantage of the spring sunshine and seize the day. Virginia City roars with the sound of their annual Grand Prix. Beer and brats aren’t usually associated with ballet, but the Sierra Nevada Ballet makes the annual event at the Brewery Arts Center a great time for all. The Earth Spirit Faire wraps up its weekend of wellness at the Community Center. Head to Reno for a Cinco De Mayo Celebration at the Grand Sierra that features musicians, cuisine, and carnival rides.

Accepting the check for the Society were President Gary Cain along with members Paula Cannon, Dona Spencer, Debbie Lane and Gary Yoakum. Late Judge Fondi recognized at Carson City courthouse with ceremony, plaque in his honor

Dozens from the Carson City and Northern Nevada legal community were on hand Friday for a plaque dedication ceremony at the Carson City Courthouse to celebrate the man who helped get the Musser Street courthouse built, the late Nevada First District Court Judge Michael E. Fondi, who died Jan. 22, 2016.
