Military-inspired compositions and young talent are the focus of the Reno Phil’s Classix Three, set for Jan. 15 and Jan. 17, 2017 at the Pioneer Center for Performing Arts. Featured guest artists and Davidson Fellows Simone Porter, violin, and Nathan Chan, cello, perform Brahms Double Concerto for Violin and Cello in A minor, op. 102. The long-time friendship between these two young prodigies is evident during performances.

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad has partnered with an architectural design class at Truckee Meadows Community College for a conceptual redesign of the V&T’s depot in Carson City. The project provided an opportunity for 16 students to take their imaginations inside the classroom out to the community – in this case for ideas to transform the current depot into a memorable train station.

Dozens gathered inside the Dema Guinn wing of the Nevada State Museum to hear the tribute to the museum’s 75th anniversary.

Jim Peckham, executive director of Friends In Service Helping (FISH), excitedly led groups of visitors on tours of the organization’s property, located at 138 E. Long Street, Thursday night as part of a grand reopening celebration.

Nevada is one of the few states that celebrate its Admission Day, and boy do we throw a party. A parade, competitions of strength and facial hair, hot air balloons, bloody marys, a carnival, pow wow, and free chili are just a few of the festivities awaiting the capital city on Saturday.

The party begins Friday this year with a ribbon cutting celebration of the 'new' downtown. The Nevada State Museum hits its 75th Anniversary this year and will have a day full of fun and surprises. On Thursday, October 27 bring your family and friends to the annual Haunted Hayride of the Historical Society of Dayton Valley. This free event is our "give-back" to the community and celebrates Dayton history in a fun, family-friendly evening. Continuous old-fashioned hayrides will circle through an Old Town Dayton filled with ghosts of the past, all of whom share a lighthearted attitude toward their history. The evening starts at the museum, where there will also be games for the kids and light refreshments. Costumes are encouraged and kids from 0 to 102 are invited!

Something wicked this way comes. Enjoy Thursday’s balmy afternoon because the wind is blowing and bringing some cold, wet weather with it. Get a jump on your holiday gift list, the Touch of Class Craft Show begins at the Carson Valley Inn and runs through Saturday. The National Alliance on Mental Illness holds its Annual Gala at the Governor’s Mansion and features country singer, Jason DeShaw. Learn about some haunted history when several locals share their stories at the Carson Valley Cultural Center.

Fall in love with downtown as Carson City moves into autumn. The monthly Downtown Business Association’s monthly Wine Walk pays no heed to what the weather serves up. Start the day at the semi-annual Vintage Market right behind Due Sorella, then stick around to sign yourself, your friends, family and neighbors up for October Wine Walk.

J's Bistro in Dayton hosts a spaghetti feed fundraiser for the Remote Area Medical program. A special lecture on the Sutro Tunnel takes place in Virginia City this evening.

Whoa doggy, what a weekend. A free Western Heritage Festival comes to the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, September 17, beginning at 10:00 am.

The festival will include Dutch oven cooking, a heritage quilting presentation, Chautauquas of local historical figures, honky-tonk guitar and jug music, as well as a day filled with children’s crafts and activities.
