What are you in the mood for? The Third and Curry Farmers Market is always a great place to start off your weekend. Kids won’t mind getting up early for the Young Eagle airplane flights at the Carson City Airport – they are free of charge for kids 8 – 17, you just need to be on time for registration. The Annual Chili Cook-off returns to Glen Eagles this weekend; with live music, a craft fair, and lots of yummy stuff to eat, raising money for Honor Flight has never tasted so good. In and Around the Great Basin: Recent Plein Air Paintings from Erik Holland will be open to public viewing at the Rinckel Mansion throughout July.

The show opens with a reception to meet the artist Friday, July 7 (1–6 pm) and Saturday, July 8, (9 am - 6 pm). The show will hang through the end of July and be open to the public during business hours. This also affords an opportunity to see the beautifully restored Rinckel Mansion, one of Carson City's grand historic buildings.

Doug Watson will portray legendary humorist “Will Rogers”, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, July 12, at 6:30 pm.

Meet in front of the State Capitol building. If time permits we can include a walk through of the State Capitol building. Water and closed-toed shoes required. Hats and sunscreen recommended. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.

Easy Walk Program: Walks of 1 to 2 miles in length with none or negligible elevation gain, and frequently paved or smooth paths. The walks will usually be of approximately one hour in duration.

Start July off with a bang, and some wine. With a four-day holiday weekend, you’ll find many things throughout the area to compete for your attention, but there’s no fun like the Downtown Business Association’s monthly Downtown Wine Walk. The festivities begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1. Grab a wine glass, map, and hand stamp and you will have until 5 p.m. to hit as many stops as possible before the raffle begins.

This week's It's Your City with host Cortney Bloomer features Karen Abowd who discusses the Greenhouse Project and the upcoming Concert Under the Stars featuring The Family Stone, Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, Wednesday, July 12 at Brewery Arts Center's Minnesota Street Stage.

How much fun can you pack into a weekend? That isn’t purely a rhetorical question – it’s more of a challenge. Grab the kids for a day at the Dangberg Home Historical Ranch where storytellers are the featured guests. Locals are in the spotlight at the Rockabilly Riot, the Iron Rebels Car Show is for resident cars only. The bells are ringing at the First United Methodist Church. Handbell Ensemble group, Tintabulations, presents a free concert at 7 p.m.

Let the good times roll, Carson City. Cars, chrome, choppers, and kruzers are in abundance. Run Whatcha Brung at Fuji Park is open to any and all cars that can get themselves there. The Rockabilly Riot and T Bucket Alliance at Mills Park is an American Graffiti flashback. Cheer on our local motorcycle cops at the Extreme Motor Challenge, or hop on your own bike and go on a poker run with the Lords of Iron Motorcycle Club.

Young Chautauquans will present “People Who United the States” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, June 28, at 6:30 pm.

The Douglas County Historical Society's Young Chautauqua Program presenters are 15 year old Jahmila Santiago as “Sarah Winnemucca”, 15 year old Sandia Johnson as “Abigail Fillmore”, 6 year old Sam Johnson as “John Muir”, 10 year old Micaiah Maulis as “Thomas Edison” and 9 year old Mamre Maulis as “John Glen”.

In this edition of It’s Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Jeff Fast of the Brewery Arts Center to discuss the Levitt-AMP Concert Series that begins this Friday in Carson City featuring Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

The featured tellers at this year’s event are Willy Claflin, world music percussion band The Batamba Collective, Mother Lode Storytelling Guild tellers Linda Kennedy and Joan McCammon, and chautauquan Larry Lippmann as “Hank Monk”. The weekend also features early afternoon shows specifically for families and children, an open mic storytelling concert and a storytelling group Carson Valley Memories led by Nancy Raven.

Steve Hale will portray the legendary mailman of the Sierra, Jon A. “Snowshoe Thompson, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, June 21, at 6:30 pm.

When Jon Thompson put on his 8-foot skis and heavy leather mail pack in 1856, he skied to Genoa and into history. His two to three day 90-mile crossings (one way) carrying the mail and valuable packages of up to 100 pounds on his back through the snow have never been physically duplicated, not even with modern equipment. This extraordinary feat has become part of the legacy and spirit of the pioneer American West.

Nevadans celebrated both Flag Day and the U.S. Army’s 242nd birthday Wednesday during a ceremony at the Nevada Veterans Memorial on the state capitol grounds in Carson City.

The Pony Express rides again. Actually, the re-ride is an annual occurrence, and always comes right through the heart of Carson City. See the mochila hand-off at the corner of Second and Curry Streets today around 12:30 p.m. (but can be up to three hours early or late) and you can follow its historic route online HERE. The Nevada National Guard celebrates Flag Day and the Army’s anniversary on the Capitol Grounds at 10:00 a.m.

The Nevada National Guard is set to host its 19th annual Flag Day and U.S. Army's 242nd birthday celebration 10 a.m. this Wednesday, June 14 at the Veterans Memorial on Capitol grounds, 101 N. Carson St. in Carson City.

Fashions and steam technology of the Victorian Era collided Saturday with those of science fiction fantasy, creating a steampunk revival on the grounds of the Nevada State Railroad Museum (NSRM) in South Carson City.

If you live anywhere within ear-shot of Mills Park, you may have heard some snaps, crackles, pops and all-out booms over the last two days.

That's because the Carson City Rendezvous is happening concurrently with the Nevada State Fair at Mills Park.

Planes, trains, and automobiles take over Carson City this weekend. Steampunk ‘N’ Trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum features train rides, fun costumes, food trucks and more. You’ll find two car shows in town – the Party at the Pavilion as part of the Nevada State Fair and the Carson City Downtown Revival Car Show at the Carson Nugget. The Carson Airport Fly-In and Open House has plenty of aeronautic fun in store. You’ll have to keep reading for all of the fun options in Carson City and the surrounding valleys.

Attention all aircraft enthusiasts: The Carson City Airport will hold is annual Open House this Saturday, June 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free event, which draws more than 6,000 visitors, takes place at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway.

Holy moly, what a way to start the weekend. The Nevada State Fair kicks off today in Carson City’s Mills Park and so does the Annual Carson Valley Days celebration in Douglas County. No matter where you are, there is a carnival nearby. You’ll find some fun in downtown Carson tonight with karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar or at the Westside Pour House. Kick start your bike and head to Battle Born Harley; their Bike Night features live music by the Smoken Rabbits. Keep a sweater handy, the temperature is dipping a little, and will drop even further as soon as the sun goes down.

Historic Barns of the Carson Valley: The Douglas County Historical Society’s “Barn Tour Fundraiser” will be held on Saturday, June 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Science fiction fantasy and historic reality will come together this Saturday and Sunday at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. Or to put it simply: Steampunk meets steam trains.

Hold onto those hats, Carson City, summer is off like a shot.

The Carson City Airport will hold an Open House on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 8:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. The event takes place at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway, Carson City, Nevada. Entry to the event is FREE to the public and draws over 6,000 visitors. The community event explores the exciting world of aviation and aerospace including: interactive displays, historical aircraft, military equipment, flybys, plane and helicopter demonstrations, food and beverages, and many more educational and family activities.

Under the cool shade of a grove of trees behind Fuji Park and across Clear Creek near Baily Pond rest two Union soldiers.

The American Civil War veterans were laid to rest here more than a century ago back when the property was site of the Ormsby County Poor Farm.

The Carson Valley Trails Association will present Carson Valley Trails Day, a celebration of the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day, on Saturday, June 3. Events are planned at two trails - the Fay-Luther Trail in Gardnerville and the Bently Heritage Trail in Minden.

Enjoy light refreshments and an afternoon of fun at the Historic Fourth Ward School Museum as Yvonne Sullivan and the Living History Ladies demonstrate "what is under that dress."

They will be dressing from the corset out, including what a lady wore during the day, depending on what activity she was attending. Yvonne has been sewing costumes for over 30 years. She and her friends enjoy getting together often to sew their historical dresses from the 1860's, 1870's and 1880's.

The Carson City Historical Society will hold yard sales this year on July 8 and August 5. The Saturday only sales will be held at the Foreman-Roberts House park, 1207 N. Carson Street, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There is space still available for vendors of antiques, collectibles or crafts. The space rental is $25 which supports the Historical Society. The Historical Society will be selling antiques and collectibles from their collection. Donations for the Society to sell will be gladly accepted.
