Train rides, moonlit hikes, flea markets and more: Events and Happenings for Sunday, Oct. 13
Good morning Carson City and happy Sunday! If you haven’t had a chance to ride the V&T Train, today is the last day of the season! In addition we’ve got a great list of events for the region, so check below to plan your day!
Sunday, October 13
— V&T Railway ends season this weekend with steam, 150th anniversary and Toast of the Canyon train rides (all day). V&T Railway will bring its event-filled 2019 season to a close this weekend with a final 150th Anniversary train on Friday, Oct. 11, vintage steam trains on Saturday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct. 13 and a Toast of the Canyon spirits train on Saturday, Oct. 12 following the steam train. The Carson City to Virginia City trains will depart Carson City’s Eastgate Depot at 10 a.m., arriving in Virginia City at 11:30 a.m. and returning to Carson at 4:15 p.m. The Toast of the Canyon train takes place immediately following the steam train’s return, beginning at 4:15 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the V&T Railway website or call (877) 724-5007.
— Muscle Powered Sunday Bicycle Ride. 9 a.m. Meet at Fremont Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Rd, Carson City, NV 89701, in the south parking lot, next to the Linear Ditch Trail. Come join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City! Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building.
— Flying Pig Indoor Flea Market. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall, 601 Old Clear Creek Rd. Come on down for some fun at the market! You never know what you will find at the flea market. Many vendors to choose from with arts, crafts, antiques, jewelry and so much more. Open Sat. October. 12..8-3 and Sun. 9-3.. Admission is $1 for adults and kids under 18 are free. — Edible art with Chef Pete. 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Art Center, 55 North R Street. Learn how to make spooky yet delicious Halloween treats for kids young and old from Executive Pastry Chef Pete Paulos. Students will take home their own creations to share as a trick and a treat. This class is for adults only and kept small for the perfect balance of individual guidance and group fun.
— CHS Theater Aims High: 'Peter and the Starcatcher' opens at Community Center. 2 p.m. at 851 E. William Street. See the backstory of Peter Pan and how he learned to fly as Carson High School Theatre Arts presents "Peter and the Starcatcher," opening this Friday at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center. This hilarious play, written by Rick Elice, and based on a book by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, is the prequel to the beloved story of "Peter Pan." Learn how Peter and Captain Hook became enemies, who taught Peter to fly, and the creation of the story everyone loves.
— Full Moon Hike at Washoe Lake State Park. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Meet at Washoe Lake State Park Maze Parking Lot. October events at Washoe Lake State Park include a Full Moon Hike and a guided hike through the sand dunes. Reservations are required only for the Full Moon Hike and can be made by calling (775) 687-4319.
— Hauntober returns to Virginia City. Throughout the month of October, Virginia City will be hosting several events to shine light on its spooky past. Virginia City boasts its notoriety of being one of the three most haunted towns in the United States, along with Savannah and Charleston. Otherworldly “haunts” exist during Halloween as Virginia City celebrates its ghostly history and offers a month of ghost experiences. Want to have your own paranormal experience?
