As one of the Northern Nevada veterans who traveled to Washington, D.C., earlier this month as part of Honor Flight Nevada, Carson City native Don Quilici has been left with memories and faces that he will cherish forever.

A benefit event to raise money for the surviving children of Heavenly Schwitchenberg, who died recently in a car accident, takes place today, Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Gold Canyon Cafe, 160 Main St., in Old Town Dayton.

Charles Woodson, Travis Kelce, Doug Pederson, Mike Zimmer and Adam Thielen will make up the NFL contingent of first time competitors at the annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe this summer, organizers announced Wednesday.

Carson Comedy Club, located inside the Carson Nugget Casino in Carson City, will feature the hilarious antics of veteran funnyman and impressionist David Gee as the headliner this Friday, April 21.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation is holding an Open House at the Wungnema House in Mills Park Sunday, April 23, from 2 to 5 p.m. The building is accessible by the Park entrance on Saliman Road, opposite the high school.

The Carson City Arts Initiative (CCAI) is delighted to present High School Pic[ks] 2 in the Community Development Building (the Brick) at 108 East Proctor Street in Carson City with 50 pieces of art by 41 students from four high schools, including Carson and Pioneer high schools.

Relay For Life of Carson City - Douglas County will hold it's 1st Annual Golf Tournament on June 24th at Empire Ranch Golf Course. It will be a 4 person best ball scramble and all proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. The day will include green fees, cart, lunch, awards, raffle, golfer shirt and goody bag. The Carson Lodge No. 1 of Free and Accepted Masons announces it is hosting the Third Annual Mason’s Charity Poker Tournament on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Carson Plaza Convention Center.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Masonic youth organizations: Carson High School scholarships, Rainbow Girls, Carson High School Safe Graduation and the preservation fund of the original V&T Railroad Depot.

Help Hot Spot Yoga and Fitness for Life celebrate their grand opening with free classes, health vendors, a 5K run, and more. Hit the dance floor with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club; their monthly dance party is held in the Grand Ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center. The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation is holding an Open House at the Wungnema Houses at Mills Park in Carson City this Sunday, March 19, from 2 to 5 p.m. The building is accessible by the Park entrance on Saliman Road, opposite the high school. Admission to the open house is free.

Soroptimist International of Carson City welcomes members of the community to its lunch meeting Wednesday, March 22. The club meets from noon until 1 pm in the north room of Glen Eagles Restaurant.

That’s good news for those running in the Carson High Safe and Sober 5K or in Ascent Runs’ Love Can Be Cold 5/10K at Prison Hill. On Monday, Feb. 6, the Nevada Department of Agriculture gathered 16 feral horses that were wandering in east Carson City for about three weeks. The horses will be vaccinated with fertility control drugs, as part of an agreement between the NDA and the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign and then relocated to an area south of Highway 50 near Stagecoach.

Area you ready for some football? North, south, east, west, or downtown: there’s a good time to be found: drink specials and football squares everywhere. If you couldn’t care less about the Patriot-Falcons match-up, then consider BINGO for CASI or bowling and some Valentine cookie decorating. Carson Now reader Valence Duarte submitted photos and asked what we knew about ongoing repairs around the city's parks following flooding earlier this month, especially around Empire Ranch and Fifth Street. We asked the city to respond to the question and got a followup by Jennifer Budge, CPRP director for Carson City Parks and Recreation.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation will hold its first Open House of the new year at the Wungnema House in Mills Park Sunday, Jan. 29, from 2 to 5 p.m. The building is accessible by the Park entrance on Saliman Road, opposite the high school. Admission to the open house is free.

Meet at the back of Centennial Park, across from the baseball fields on Heritage Way. We will walk the Lower Road which loops back around the golf course. Closed-toed shoes and water are required. Bring a friend and/or friendly dogs. Walking sticks recommended.

Muscle Powered Easy Hike program are hikes of between 2 to 4 miles in length, often with some elevation gain (no more than 500') and can be on a paved path, smooth wide trail, or single track. The hikes will usually be of approximately 1 1/2 duration.
