UPDATE 3:30PM From Douglas County Public Works: The water line has been located, but it is 15 foot deep with a gas line in the excavation hole and unmarked fiber optic lines running parallel to the edge of pavement along the old road bed. Therefore efforts are currently limited to the use of a vactor truck for excavation. It is anticipated that the crews will be working into the night to make the leak repair.
Jacks Valley Road will remain closed until the repair is complete.

A broken water line opened a six foot sink hole on Jacks Valley Road north of Genoa on Saturday. The hole is located between Montaña and the first entrance to Genoa Lakes Golf Course forcing a road closure, according to Douglas County Public Works officials.

What started out as a group of friends coming to south shore Lake Tahoe from their homes in the Sacramento area to watch the American Century Championship golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe has turned into a spectator sport of its own.

Carson City Soroptimist seeks players, tee or green sponsors, and raffle prize donors for its 15th Stroke to Help Golf Tournament. Scheduling conflicts have moved the annual fundraiser a month ahead of its usual date, and at a new venue as well.

High temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s around Carson City this weekend and will gradually get warmer beginning next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Steph Curry said he hopes to get off to a good start on the opening day and be in the conversation at the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

I am quite fond of Tuesdays. For a weekday, they usually have some great offerings. Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada offers 'Books and Brags', essentially a story with craft time. LAKE TAHOE, Nev. — Former MLB All-Star pitcher Mark Mulder, the defending champion, and newly-retired pro tennis champion Mardy Fish are listed as co-favorites by the Harrah’s and Harveys Race & Sports Book to win the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament, July 22-24, at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Mulder and Fish are both 3-1 to win the 27th annual competition airing live on NBC and NBCSN next weekend.

A private developer from Reno has purchased the membership-only Thunder Canyon Golf Club in southern Washoe Valley, renaming it Toiyabe Golf Club, a press release from the Bauserman Group said.

Two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Steph Curry will join superstar athletes and entertainers at the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe later this month.

Well known as an accomplished golfer, Curry finished fourth in the 2013 event and was immediately installed as one of the favorites to win, listed at 5-1 by the Harrah’s and Harveys Race & Sports Book. Curry’s father, Dell, who enjoyed a 16-year NBA career, is also in the field as is Curry’s Golden State Warriors teammate Andre Iguodala.

Compared to the last few weekends, Carson City is downright sleepy. That just makes it much easier to get around town and explore. The great day about three-day weekends is how quickly the next weekend appears. The fireworks went off in Carson City last night without a hitch, bringing the end of another incredible weekend. Today may feel a little like a Monday, but there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself. Check out the new Spirit of America show at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Show. Our local Classic Cinema Club meets tonight and will be showing 'A Walk in the Sun' with Dana Andrews. If you feel like playing with fire, Controlled Burn meets at A to Zen to practice the right way to handle the flames.

Monday’s aren’t always known for fun, but the Fourth of July is a different animal. Carson City, Virginia City, Lake Tahoe, and Reno will have fireworks displays starting around 9:30. Minden, Gardnerville, and Genoa aren’t slacking, though. Festivities can be found just about everywhere.

Sunday is the day before Independence Day, but Sparks is getting a jump on the festivities with their Star Spangled Sparks Celebration and fireworks. King’s Beach always celebrates early, so you can catch fireworks at the northeast end of Tahoe, as well. Keep reading: the weekend is in full swing.
