Carson Valley men among Nevada Dream Tag winners announced
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 07/24/2014 - 3:51pmFive lucky hunters, two of whom are from Douglas County, are preparing for their Nevada hunt of a lifetime after winning one of the five premier tags in the Nevada Dream Tag raffle on July 1.
This year the Dream Tag program saw winners from Nevada, California, New Mexico and North Dakota. The winners from Carson Valley include David Cochran of Genoa who won the Desert Bighorn Sheep tag and John Koster of Gardnerville who won the antelope tag.
Nevada wildlife wardens capture, release 11 bears since July 1
Submitted by editor on Wed, 07/23/2014 - 2:49pmTwo black bears trapped Tuesday were released back into the wild by Nevada Department of Wildlife wardens. So far, 11 bears have been safely released back into the Sierra since July 1.
Both bears were tagged, tattooed and micro chipped in order to identify them in the future should they come back in to contact with humans. Neither bear had previously been handled by NDOW.

After months of being without rain, Mother Nature chose Sunday to spring open the clouds and pour down the buckets after a week’s worth of near record-high temperatures, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, power outages, gusty winds and wildfires.
Nevada wildlife officials euthanize black bear in Genoa after repeated goat kills

It is the first bear killed this year determined to be depredating livestock. In 2013 two bears were euthanized for the same reason.
The bear, estimated to be six years of age, had been handled by NDOW personnel two other times before, earlier this week and in April.
Man fills shopping cart at Gardnerville Walmart and leaves without paying
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 07/18/2014 - 2:37pmDouglas County authorities say the man in the photograph above filled a shopping cart full of goods July 3 at the Walmart store in Gardnerville and left without paying. A reward is being offered to anyone with information that leads to his arrest and conviction.
The man was seen leaving the store and then loading the shopping cart full of merchandise into a dark-colored SUV, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks.

Lightning starts brush fire in Old Clear Creek area, 150 acres and growing; evacuation advisory underway

There are about 20 to 30 homes in the area. Evacuees are urged to go to the Carson City Community Center. Animals can be sent to Fuji Park. The orders came down at around 1:45 a.m.

Elderly Gardnerville woman dies in Interstate 580 crash
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 07/15/2014 - 10:57amUPDATE: A Gardnerville woman died Monday in a single vehicle crash in the southbound lane on Interstate 580 two miles north of Bowers Mansion in Washoe County, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Dorothy S. Hunter, 95, died at the scene of the accident, reported at 2:34 p.m. Hunter was driving a 2007 Silver KIA Rio, said Trooper Dave Gibson.

Two men sought for stealing computers from Gardnerville Walmart
Submitted by editor on Thu, 07/10/2014 - 1:56pmDouglas County authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying two men sought in connection with the May 4 early morning theft of two computers from a Walmart store in Gardnerville.
According to Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Pat Brooks, two men entered the store at 1511 Grant Avenue at 3:41 a.m., took two computers from the electronics section, exited the store and drove away in a white Chevrolet Impala or vehicle similar to it.
The sheriff's office provided two photos of the suspects from store surveillance.

Woman jailed after attempting to take $1,100 in merchandise from Carson City Walmart
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 06/25/2014 - 3:00pmA 29-year-old homeless woman was jailed Tuesday on suspicion of felony grand larceny after allegedly trying to steal $1,100 in merchandise from Walmart, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.
Ashley Ambrose also faces misdemeanor charges of obstructing and a warrant out of Reno for failure to appear in traffic court.
According to the arrest report, officers were called to the Market Street store at around 8 p.m. and learned from Walmart Loss Prevention that the woman attempted to push a cart full of merchandise through the west doors of the store.

Carson City deputies arrest man on felony embezzlement warrant after traffic stop

David James Brewer of Gardnerville was arrested at 7:40 p.m. in the area of Carson Street and Winnie Lane. Bail was set at $15,000 bail.
Amodei announces new additions to team

A 50-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 8:26 a.m. in the 1900 block of North Carson Street on a misdemeanor warrant for petit larceny issued June 5, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.
Ex-felon, gang member jailed after witnesses said he brandished gun at park
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 06/16/2014 - 9:08amA 25-year-old ex-felon with ties to gangs was arrested Saturday in Carson City after he was seen Friday in Douglas County with a gun, attempting to provoke a fight among rival gang members and juveniles, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.
Andrew William Tagay was jailed on numerous felony and misdemeanor charges, including being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon. His bail was set at $500,000. He was taken into custody in the 1200 block of Palo Verde by Tri-County Gang Unit deputies who responded to Mills Park.

Man with felony warrants jailed for giving Carson City deputy the wrong name

Cahner Stephen Yews, of Gardnerville, was taken into custody at 11:16 a.m. in the area of Roop and John streets following a traffic stop.
According to the arrest report, officers stopped the vehicle, occupied by four people, because it had suspended plates.

FootGolf on Course at Carson Valley
Submitted by editor on Wed, 06/04/2014 - 9:05pmCarson Valley Golf Course invites everyone to come out and try their hand at FootGolf, a new sport played on its own course by kicking a soccer ball into a 21-inch cup, and is being billed as “Golf with a Kick.”
The course opens at 2 p.m., and rules are similar to golf. Take your own soccer ball or rent one for $8 ($5 will be returned once the ball is returned). Rates for 18 holes of FootGolf are $18, walking; $26, riding and $9 for juniors.
