Man with felony warrants jailed for giving Carson City deputy the wrong name

A 20-year-old man was arrested Monday on multiple felony charges including two warrants, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said. Cahner Stephen Yews, of Gardnerville, was taken into custody at 11:16 a.m. in the area of Roop and John streets following a traffic stop.
According to the arrest report, officers stopped the vehicle, occupied by four people, because it had suspended plates.
Yews, who appeared nervous, identified himself using another name and provided a birthdate but told the officer he could not remember his Social Security number. The deputy called Douglas County dispatch and gave them the information the 20-year-old man gave.
Dispatch stated it belonged to an actual person who resides in Douglas County and provided a photo of the man and it was not the same person that was detained, according to the arrest report.
The officer told the man this and he admitted he had lied about his information and then gave his true name, Cahner Yews, who had a felony arrest warrant from Douglas County as well as an active absconder warrant from Nevada State Parole and Probation.
Yews was taken into custody where he was being held without bail on the felony parole warrant and the Douglas warrant. His bail amount for the Carson City charge of providing a false ID to avoid prosecution: $10,000.
In other arrests:
— A 48-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 3:21 p.m. in the 1400 block of Rand Avenue on suspicion of petit larceny.
According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to a motel regarding an unwanted subject. The reporting witness advised a man was refusing to leave the property.
An officer met with the motel manager who advised the man didn't have money for the rent and was told to leave by 11 a.m. He had not left the property and still had clothes in the room and his vehicle was parked in the lot, the arrest report states.
The manager advised she wanted the man to leave but was not prepared to pursue charges. The officer told the manager that he would tell the man to leave.
Meanwhile, the owner of a convenience store approached the officer and told him the man had stole alcohol from the store twice, once on Sunday and the other earlier Monday. The owner said the man either needed to pay or go to jail.
A deputy made contact with the man and advised him of the store owner claims he stole alcohol from the store. The suspect told the officer he paid for the alcohol but that he didn't have a receipt. The officer asked the man why the store owner would lie and the suspect said he didn't have any money and did not pay for the alcohol. He was arrested on a charge of petit larceny. Bail: $337.
Carson City sheriff's deputies made two misdemeanor arrests Monday involving domestic battery.
— A 56-year-old man was arrested June 9, 11:41 p.m. in the 1600 block of East Long Street after officers were called to a residence. When officers arrived the suspect was talking to himself in the kitchen and the front door was open. Deputies observed several items of food on the front porch and observed the man as having red, watery eyes and slurred speech.
Officers had been at the apartment earlier in the night for a verbal domestic dispute between the man and his son and their girlfriends. The officer returned because the man had allegedly pushed one of the women, the arrest report states. The deputy asked the man about the food on the porch. He told the officer the woman told him to put it there, the arrest report states.
Officer spoke with the woman who said the man began to yell, throw food from the refrigerator and pushed her. The officer did not observe any physical marks on the woman. Officers arrested the man for domestic battery. Bail: $3,000.
— A 32-year-old Carson City woman was booked into jail Monday, 1:59 p.m. on a warrant for domestic battery issued June 5, 2014. Bail: $3,000.
Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
