“I get bored easily, so I like to do new stuff,” he said. “I do whatever I want.” When pressed, he narrows it down to American Southern, Pacific Rim, Asian, Latin.

Monday, September 7: Things to do in Carson City on Labor Day

Head up to Virginia City for their annual Labor Parade, followed by the Battle of C Street as part of the Great Civil War Days. The other parade is comprised of the thousands of people leaving Burning Man; watch out for their dust! Join Keep Tahoe Blue for their annual beach clean-up at Nevada Beach this morning, then head over to Heavenly Village for a car show and huge winter sports equipment sale.

There's a 5K Remembrance Run in Carson City, a rib cook-off in Sparks, a farm-to-fork festival culinary festival and fireworks at South Lake Tahoe, the Cantaloupe Festival in Fallon, the Comstock Community Rummage Sale in Silver City and the Great Civil War Days Camp at Virginia City.
SUNDAY:
- IHOP 5K Remembrance Run and Walk: free, informal, untimed five-kilometer run/walk is set to start in the parking lot at the Carson City IHOP: 3883 S. Carson St. at 7am and finish at the Nevada Guard's Office of the Adjutant General Complex: 2460 Fairview Dr. (7am-10am; Reflective running/walking gear is recommended and participants should follow the marked course; Civilian participants should arrange ride back to start line)

- Treasure hunt on Saturday at the Carson City Historical Society Rummage and Yard Sale at the Forman-Roberts House Museum at 1207 N. Carson St. Free tours of the museum will also be available during the 9am-4pm event.
- Take a ride on the Virginia and Truckee #25 Steam Engine at the Nevada State Train Museum Friday through Monday.

On Sept. 5, you will be able to fish wherever you like without the need to buy a fishing license. However remember that you will need to abide by the rules and regulations that govern whatever water(s) you will be fishing.

Submitted by editor on Sat, 08/29/2015 - 1:29pmHello fellow anglers, the weather has cooled down a little and the fishing has started to pick up around the area. Last weekend I took a trip early Saturday morning up to the East Carson River above Markleeville.
The mornings are cold, but warmed up about 7:30.
I fished a few long stretches of the river I have never fished before. I tip my hat to the Alpine County Fish and Game Commission. I just picked these spots at random because of the way they looked, Like something out of Field and Stream magazine.

Carson City farmer's market brings in more than 400 pounds of food for local pantry
Submitted by editor on Fri, 08/07/2015 - 2:50pmFarmers and donors at Carson City's 3rd Street Farmers Market gave more than 400 pounds of fresh produce to the “Feds Feed Families” food drive last weekend for the Ron Wood Family Resource Center food pantry.
Donations will be accepted again Saturday to benefit the pantry at Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH.

Feds Feed Families Food Drive Carson City campaign begins Saturday

There are plenty of places to fish in our local area that are very fishable. Renee and I fished up on Wolf Creek, Silver Creek and the East Carson last weekend. Some were good others were slow, we adjusted for every place we fished and had a successful fun day.
FISH thrift store renovation on North Carson Street moves forward
Submitted by editor on Tue, 07/28/2015 - 10:19pmThe renovation of the FISH thrift store in Carson City will advance beginning Thursday as volunteer crews commence the reframing of the building. The store will remain open for business during the renovation.
Volunteers from Black Pine Construction and the Kiwanis Club will remove the large glass panes from the storefront and install a new framing for the planned Western design. The demolition phase of the project was completed in May by volunteers from the Western Nevada College Construction Program.
