The Silver State Tag already allows hunters the opportunity to hunt one of four big game species (mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, Nelson (desert) bighorn sheep and pronghorn antelope) anywhere in the state, but the winner also walks away with thousands of dollars’ worth of hunting gear and services.
Judge hands down sentence to man who killed bear in South Lake Tahoe

Gilbert Alan Wetenkamp pleaded no contest on March 11, 2016 to the misdemeanor charge of unlawfully taking of a bear.

Pilots seek record for airplane 'water skiing' on Lake Tahoe

Not many, but that may change after efforts made by three Truckee pilots who set out earlier this month to create a record for Guinness World Records.
Raptors are visible in Carson City, too

But Carson City residents don't have to leave the Eagle Valley to catch glimpses of raptors. We've got them in our own backyards.

The 58 year-old United States Navy veteran and former submariner had been homeless for about 13 years when he arrived in Carson City last fall from Southern California, where he had lived for much of his civilian life.

Although we have had nice weather this last week, the higher mountain roads can be very dangerous if you are not paying attention. Just last week I drove up to Caples Lake to do some ice fishing and got caught ahead of a multi-vehicle crash near Kirkwood.

We are looking for actors, singers, and dancers grades K-12, who will be cast to play all the classic characters including Alice, The White Rabbit, The Mad Hatter, The Cheshire Cat, and of course, The evil Queen of Hearts – plus a host of other colorful characters.

Dean Heller, passed the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works on Wednesday. I've had as many reports this last week as I would in the middle of May. Before we get to our reports, I would like to do a little education about ice conditions in our area. Our local weather temperatures have been extremely cold during the end of last year and into this year.

This New Year will be a busy one for Carson City. Foremost on our minds, perhaps, is the Downtown Street Narrowing Project due to begin early February/March depending on weather conditions. One of the goals stated by Carson City staff is to have this project complete in time for the Nevada Day parade. We should, however, keep our chief consideration foremost: “Let's do it Right.”

Warming shelter for Carson City area homeless to remain open nightly through Jan. 3
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 12/30/2015 - 4:10pmWith the forecast calling for continued frigid overnight conditions for the remainder of the week, the Emergency Warming Shelter at Fuji Park in Carson City will remain open for the next five nights, said Beth McCready-White, client services manager of Friends in Helping Service, also known as FISH, which operates the shelter.
