Carson City firefighters called to brush fire off Brick Road

Carson City firefighters were called Saturday night to the area of 5251 Brick Road off of Highway 50 in east Carson City. The fire was around 50 yards in size when firefighters arrived, with flames in the trees, according to first responders.

The fire was called into dispatch at around 9:35 p.m. It is located between Detroit Road and Akron Way. Firefighters on scene report at 9:46 p.m. that they've been able to get water on it, knocking much of it down.

Fire Drill Night 2: Carson City Fire Department participates in second staged event

Carson City firefighters are participating in a second night of drills, according to dispatch. This drill is centered in the 500 block of West King Street. Firefighters did a similar drill on Tuesday night. Firefighters were called shortly before 8:30 p.m. to the location.

Fire Drill Only: Training tonight at state office on King Street

The Carson City Fire Department is doing training exercises tonight at the Nevada Health and Human Services Office at 505 East King Street. The drill, a staged scenario involving a fire with people trapped in a building, began at around 8:40 p.m.

Four vehicles involved in Hot Springs Road accident

UPDATE: One person was taken by ground ambulance to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, according to Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi. Also, a Carson City sheriff's officer noted that four vehicles were involved, not five as was initially reported to dispatch.

Arriving medical personnel were checking for injuries.

Carson City Fire Department called to gas leak near DMV

The Carson City Fire Department has responded to a gas leak near the DMV Office, at Little and Oregon streets. Carson City sheriff's deputies are assisting with traffic control in the area of the leak.
The fire department has called it a working incident. It is unknown what caused the leak. No other information is available at this time. The call came into dispatch at around 10:40 a.m.

Highway 50 crash near Mound House involves gravel truck

A gravel truck has rolled over in the eastbound lane of Highway 50 near Mound House in Lyon County, according to dispatchers. The accident was reported to the Nevada Highway Patrol at 8:10 p.m.

Lyon County fire and rescue were called to the scene of the crash. Highway 50 at Mound House is at a standstill with traffic being re-direct around the crash site, which is in the area between mile markers 1 and 3.

Carson City fire command at Technology Way ends after suspicious package 'unfounded'

UPDATE: The suspicious package reported in the 4000 block of Technology Way was unfounded, according to dispatch. Carson City Fire Department and Sheriff's Office command at the location was called off at around 2:30 p.m.

A suspicious package was reported at a state health facility at 4190 Technology Way. Carson City Sheriff's Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol have closed the road at the intersection of Arrowhead and Technology, according to dispatch.

State prisoner escapes, caught with help from Carson City Sheriff's Office

Traffic was rerouted earlier tonight at 5th Street and Saliman Road after a break at the prison in which gun shots were fired, according to multiple calls to dispatch.

The incident began at around 6 tonight where prison officials from the Nevada Department of Corrections Warm Springs Corrections Facility reported a prisoner that broke free in the Lompa Ranch area. The prisoner took off running and may have been met by a white van picking him up that was intercepted.

The prison facility is located at 3301 East Fifth Street.

Camera network will help spot area wildfires

The University of Nevada's seismological lab has installed high definition cameras throughout the Sierra, which can help watch for fires in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Graham Kent with the Seismology Lab says the network of cameras will allow fire crews to scope out terrain to see how quickly a fire is spreading, before sending crews in.

Douglas County requests State of Emergency for cumulative flash flooding

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners have requested a State of Emergency due to the cumulative series of flash floods that have taken place since July 20, 2014, in Douglas County. The cumulative series of floods has now exceeded the county’s resources, and the declaration will allow for help with repairing public infrastructure such as County Maintained roads, culverts, and drainage.

Carson city deputies arrest five on felony charges during weekend patrol

A 50-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on a felony charge of possession of a stolen vehicle after he had been stopped and then took off running from officers before being caught, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

James Dean Anderson was taken into custody at 4:38 p.m. in the 1500 block of Continental Drive. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a police officer and driving on a revoked license for DUI.

Fire burning Sunday on Genoa Peak in Douglas County

Firefighting crews in Douglas County were called to a quarter-acre brush and tree fire burning along the ridge of Genoa Peak Sunday afternoon.

The fire was reported just before 2:30 p.m. Aerial support, including a helicopter, has responded to the scene.

Thunderstorm leaves some Carson City streets flooded

UPDATE 4:45PM: An Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory is in effect until 6:45 p.m. for Carson City, according to the National Weather Service. At 4:23 p.m. street flooding from heavy rain and hail earlier this afternoon was subsiding. However, showers and thunderstorms will continue to move into the Carson City area through this evening. Rainfall on saturated soils may lead to additional street flooding along with rapid rises on creeks and drainage ditches.

Douglas County briefing on Wednesday flash flooding in Fish Springs area

Douglas County agencies and departments are currently working on flood recovery measures in the Fish Springs area as a result of the Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014 flash flood event.

The following information is to assist citizens affected by the recent flooding and to provide information on public safety concerns. This incident produced hazardous condition due to the amount of water and dark evening hours and created safety concerns and inhibited immediate damage assessment.

Toulumne County man indicted for starting 2013 Rim Fire

A 32-year-old Tuolumne County man, Keith Matthew Emerald, has been indicted on four counts of allegedly starting last year's 250,000-acre Rim Fire, the largest fire in the Sierra Nevada in recorded history. United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner and U.S. Forest Service Pacific Southwest Regional Forester Randy Moore announced the indictment Thursday.

The Rim Fire, which burned for nine weeks and sent heavy smoke that choked Carson City, Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe air for weeks, included large areas in the Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite National Park.

Douglas County Commissioners and Douglas County Emergency Management’s decision not to file a disaster declaration has come under question, been criticized, and created opportunities for much public comment and debate. The recent flash flood event in north eastern portion of the Johnson Lane, Central Johnson Lane, and Fish Springs areas of the county was a significant event that many would think would warrant a disaster declaration.

Tahoe Queen gets stuck on sandbar: 258 passengers taken to safety

What started off as a leisurely 90 minute cruise on the Tahoe Queen turned into quite the adventure for passengers on board Monday afternoon.

The boat was about 30 minutes into its Emerald Bay cruise when it became stuck on a sandbar on Lake Tahoe. At about 3:30 p.m., South Lake Tahoe Fire Department received a call that the Tahoe Queen was stuck off the Regan Beach shore. It is not known at this time why emergency personnel weren't called to the scene until 90 minutes after the Tahoe Queen got stuck.

Carson City deputies make 4 felony, multiple misdemeanor arrests during weekend

A Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 9:22 a.m. in the area of North Plaza and Washington streets on a felony burglary warrant issued out of Clark County. Charles Roy Dickey, 59, was taken into custody and was being held without bail awaiting extradition, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Care Flight called after woman, child struck by vehicle at Fifth and Roop streets

UPDATE: Carson City sheriff's officials confirmed an adult woman was flown by Care Flight following this morning's crash at Fifth and Roop Street and a child was taken by ambulance. Their conditions are unknown and their identities were unavailable.

UPDATE: Care Flight has taken one victim to the trauma ward of Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno following a pedestrian accident this morning at Fifth and Roop streets. A second victim was taken by ambulance. Reports to dispatch were that a woman and child were hit by a pickup at the intersection.

National Night Out canceled due to weather, Mills Park conditions

UDPATE: The Carson City Sheriff’s Office regrets to inform everyone that the 12th Annual National Night Out in Mills Park, set for Tuesday, August 5 at 5 p.m. has been canceled.

It has been determined that with the park's current ground saturation from the rain, the quantity of “heavy” public safety vehicles, aircraft and equipment that was scheduled to be on the grassy area of the park would cause irreparable damage. Further, at this late hour, there is insufficient time to orchestrate a reasonable relocation of the event location.

California foothills fire could bring smoke to area

A wildfire in Northern California has destroyed five homes and several other structures near vineyards in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the Sand Fire has burned about 1,300 acres near the border of Amador and El Dorado counties. It was about 20 percent contained Saturday morning.

Care Flight called to accident involving pedestrian in downtown Carson City

Carson City fire and ambulance were called this afternoon to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 400 block of North Carson Street.

The victim was taken by Care Flight to the trauma ward of Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

The accident was reported to Carson City dispatch at 2:26 p.m. Carson City sheriff's deputies were redirecting traffic around the accident scene.

Care Flight landed behind a nearby casino parking lot at Robinson Street. No other details were available on the victim.

NV150 Fair in Carson City opens with free entry and nonstop entertainment

UPDATE: Thursday at 11 a.m., the Wells Fargo coach will be delivering Governor Brian Sandoval, Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell and Wells Fargo Regional Manager Chad Osorno and Wells Fargo Northern Nevada Area Manager Sean French to Fuji Park in south Carson City to preside over the official opening and ribbon cutting of Carson City’s contribution to the NV150 Anniversary event, the NV150Fair.

The NV150Fair will feature over 90 4-H and Future Farmers of America kids from around the region showcasing their animals and farm knowledge.

Carson Valley men among Nevada Dream Tag winners announced

Five lucky hunters, two of whom are from Douglas County, are preparing for their Nevada hunt of a lifetime after winning one of the five premier tags in the Nevada Dream Tag raffle on July 1.

This year the Dream Tag program saw winners from Nevada, California, New Mexico and North Dakota. The winners from Carson Valley include David Cochran of Genoa who won the Desert Bighorn Sheep tag and John Koster of Gardnerville who won the antelope tag.

Nevada Capitol evacuated after false fire alarm

More than 100 state workers were evacuated from the Nevada Capitol in Carson City when a fire alarm sounded this afternoon.
