Lake Tahoe crawfish feast meets muscle fest at South Shore
A outdoor feast with the main course arriving straight out of Lake Tahoe, plus an indoor muscle and fitness protein fest will be the ultimate flex and fry events of the summer on Aug. 23 at the South Shore.
The second annual Boil 'n Fry Day Festival at MontBleu Resort, Casino and Spa is Lake Tahoe's version of an old fashioned New Orleans crawdad feed, complete with live music at the resort's outdoor event center, carnival games, hot wings, barbecue, cold crafted beer and all the fried, boiled or barbecued fresh water crustaceans festival goers can eat.
Called crawfish, crawdads or crawdaddys in other regions of the country, the creatures at the lake are known simply as Tahoe Lobster. Last year, MontBleu launched the inaugural festival to celebrate Tahoe Lobster Company, the first commercial outfit to harvest crawfish. Tahoe Lobster Company will supply this year’s batch of crawdads, which will come two hours fresh from the lake straight to the plate.
The Boil 'n Fry Day festival is a celebration of Tahoe Lobster Company's continued harvest and a Wild West revival of a fresh water delicacy made famous in the Deep South, most notably New Orleans.
The outdoor party starts at noon. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for 12 and under, and free for ages six and under, and can be bought at the event, the MontBleu Box Office, or by calling 1-888-829-7630.
MontBleu will fire up barbecues, hot-oil vats and steaming stew pots. The festival features live music, a Miss Crawfish Pageant, lawn and carnival games, a dunk tank, raffle prizes and competitions. Cash prize lawn game tournaments include $500 Corn Hole, $100 Bocce Ball, $50 Croquet, $50 Frisbee.
Meanwhile inside MontBleu the same day, there will be an out of the water celebration: The fourth annual Tahoe Show body building and sculpting competition.
The event, featured on two giant onstage screens, attracts dozens of the region’s fittest to compete for cash prizes in a judged competition featuring IFBB Pro Figure, NPC Bodybuilding, men’s and women’s figure and physique, fitness and bikini. The Tahoe Show is a national qualifier. The host is Joey Gloor, renowned trainer and host of MTV’s “I Used to be Fat.” Other celebrity guests are expected.
Pre-judging starts at 10 a.m. Doors open at 9:45 a.m. Tickets are $22 reserved seating, Finals at 6:30 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $38.50/$27.50 reserved seating (plus a $3 facility fee).
