Holidays are often as fleeting as any other day, ending about as indeterminately as they had begun. On occasion, though, there is always that one day...

Valentine's Day at the Plaza Hotel Events Center in Carson City was celebrated a few days early on Saturday with the 20th annual Feast of Chocolate, a fundraising benefit for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Capital Branch.

The public is invited to the 20th Annual Feast of Chocolate on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Plaza Hotel Event Center, 211 E. Ninth Street in Carson City.

Proceeds from the event benefit local scholarships and American Association of University Women (AAUW) fellowships and programs.

First responders from around the area waited on diners at Bodine's Casino and SlotWorld in Carson City Saturday, part of the Feast with a Hero fundraiser that raises money for the local Holiday with a Hero program.

For more than 60 years, the Carson City Nugget has been feeding he community with a free Thanksgiving feast, and this year was no exception. Together with Friends In Service Helping (FISH), hundreds of people enjoyed a hot, home cooked meal served up by community volunteers.

Our next Culinary Travelers Club dinner will be on Nov 14th. We will be bringing you the highly anticipated “French Country Feast."

This event will feature a five course meal prepared with recipes dating back generations, prepared from scratch the old fashioned way. We will begin with the French tradition of apéro, or aperitif. It is believed that a body must relax, have a light cocktail or liqueur and a few bites of something delicious in order to encourage the appetite. We couldn’t agree more!

The 2018 Carson City High Five Turkey Drive will be held Thursday, Nov. 8 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Carson Nugget.

Organized by Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH and the Carson Nugget, curbside drop-offs on the Carson Street side of the casino are encouraged as organizers say they need 1,000 turkeys for holiday baskets and the annual Carson Nugget Thanksgiving Feast.
