According to the U.S. data group Nielsen, Americans spent 34 hours using smartphone apps and on the mobile Web in December 2013, averaging at least seven sessions a day with their device. This trend has spurred numerous self-help books and articles on technology addiction. Heading into the holidays, the desire to unplug from the digital world and reconnect with family and friends has never been stronger.

Barbecue Ribs and Christianity On A Lazy Summer Day
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sat, 06/28/2014 - 11:48amIt started out as one of those lazy days in Carson City, where it’s not too hot, but it’s not too cold!
It’s just right!
But, when the mercury begins to creep into the triple digits, I am glad I take advantage of the cooler temperatures early in the summer season, because I hate to cook on my patio when it is 100 degrees in the shade!
This is the reason I go straight to my favorite BBQ restaurant for my semi-annual feasting of pork ribs, with corn bread, cole slaw and beans, coupled with my favorite adult libation.

Irish History and Humor for St. Patrick's Day
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sat, 03/15/2014 - 9:41pmHere's a wee bit o' Irish history in honor of St. Patrick's Day, brought to you by the Gairin Celtic Musicians Tom and Mary Kay Aufrance. When did St. Patrick live?
There is a popular notion that St. Patrick, the Apostle of Ireland, was born sometime in the 4th or 5th Century at Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton. But now! Think about that! The village of Kilpatrick is on the River Clyde, which is in Scotland! If this is his true birthplace, then Ireland's patron saint would actually be Scottish! Begorrah!
