The featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon will be Patricia Ackerman, a Democratic primary candidate for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District.

Heading into the weekend, post-Christmas holiday activities continue around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Christmas Through the Years presentation at the Carson Valley Community Theater, Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop, musicians Lauren Kepler and Dan Cypher at Bella Vita Bistro, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club and much more!

Heading into Monday, it sure does feel like Christmas around the capital City. With only two shopping days left until Christmas be sure stop by the Carson Mall for the final days of its Holiday Craft Show. Weather wise we're looking at some valley snow showers into the afternoon and evening. Activities include a spirited discussion by local historian CW Bayer about the origins of Reno's tawdry reputation, plus Carson Cigar Company will hold its annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Party. Happy Saturday Carson City, and Happy Winter Solstice! Are you all geared up for the holiday season? We've got some great events happening this weekend throughout the region, check them out below!

Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon will feature Nevada historian CW Bayer, who will talk about his new book “Reno’s Jazz Hysteria — cabaret and ballroom.” Bayer's meticulous research revealed that the origins of Nevada’s “sin industry” were rooted in Reno's scandalous “jazz hysteria,” a pop culture sensation that swept the nation beginning in the 1920s.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a toy and gift drive for homeless kids and teens, the 12th annual Christmas Carol Playalong for Strings at the Carson Mall, Carson City’s first-ever "Unsilent Night" at the Brewery Arts Center, a Só Sol dinner with entertainment at Sassafras, a "Pink Party" cancer center fundraiser at the Lighthouse Bar, comedian Dan St. Paul at the Carson Comedy Club and more.

This Sunday, Dec. 22 at 4 p.m. Come down to Sassafras in Carson City and spend an early evening with Só Sol. Get ready for some of the best folks, food, drinks, hot springs and songs one could ever ask for. This is a free show. All ages welcome.

The countdown to Christmas is on as we head into the first day of the work week. Events around the capital city Monday include a free yoga class offered through Partnership Carson City, the first day kickoff of a Holiday Gift Making Camp at the Brewery Arts Center, a Carson River Trails Project open house hosted by Parks, Recreation and Open Space, a Carson City Democratic luncheon featuring a Bernie Sanders campaign presentation, West Coast swing dancing at Carson Lanes and more.

At Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon, Jacob Allen will give a presentation on Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign, and will field questions from area Democrats still undecided ahead of February's precinct caucuses.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. In 2013 he finished his degree in Political Science and International Relations at Beloit College in Beloit Wisconsin, his hometown. In the summer of 2014, he was hired as a field organizer for the Wisconsin Democrats' mid-term coordinated campaign.

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning for a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation after his girlfriend sent a family member text messages that said “help me” and “call the police,” a sheriff's deputy report states.

Events include the 25th annual Carson High School Holiday Craft Fair, a “War of the Worlds” play at the Brewery Arts Center, a Chili Bingo Night fundraiser to benefit the Carson Middle School Band, laughs at the Carson Nugget and much more.

Featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon will be Benjamin Challinor, Nevada state director of Julián For The Future, Julián Castro's presidential campaign. A veteran of Hillary for America's Reno organizing efforts in 2016, Challinor was most recently Chief of Staff for Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, and before that served as campaign manager for State Senator Julia Ratti. Assisting him will be Julián For The Future Regional Organizing Director Megan Joy Macias.

Partly sunny skies and cool temperatures are expected Thursday with a warmup in time for the weekend. Events ahead around the capital city include a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, a discussion on holiday stress and dementia offered by Carson Tahoe Expressions Memory Care, and an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered. Featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon will be Tod Colegrove, who recently took the reins as Carson City Library Director, replacing Sena Loyd who resigned in February to take a job in the private sector. He holds a doctorate and masters degree in physics, and a masters of library and information science with concentration in competitive intelligence and knowledge management.
