Fat Tuesday Business Networking at The Dayton Taphouse set for Oct. 16

There will be a Fat Tuesday Business Networking event at The Dayton Taphouse on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. Normally we do our events on Tuesdays but the Dayton Taphouse is closed on Tuesdays, so we were willing to work with them since there are only a few restaurants in the greater Dayton / Moundhouse area who can accommodate a group.

Senator Square: Carson High School graduate addresses National Honor Society members

National Honor Society held its induction ceremony Sept. 23 in the CHS Big Gym featuring guest speaker Ryan Costella a 2000 CHS graduate. Costella was an active member of NHS, and this fact influenced his desire to attend college at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA where he earned degrees in Political Science and English.

State Treasurer to speak at Carson City Democratic luncheon

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine. A native of New York, in 2003 Conine earned his bachelor's degree from Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, and in 2013 he completed his JD from UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law.

Calvary Chapel Carson Valley's Harvest Festival will take place on Oct. 31, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. It is a warm and safe alternative to Halloween located at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Pinenut Road. Admission is a suggested donation of two unopened bags of candy per family.

Carson City man arrested on over 20 felonies in regards to string of vehicle burglaries

A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested on 20 felony charges including burglary, possession of stolen property, burglary with a firearm, possession of instrument with burglarious intent, and removing a firearm’s serial number.

Marco Antonio Covarrubias was arrested in the 1100 block of Ridgefield Drive early Thursday morning after deputies were responding to the area of Pinion Pine Drive on report of a burglary, and the area had recently reported several other burglaries during the past week with similar circumstances.

Nevada Lore Series: Brewery Arts Center's history and latest Carson City ownership transfer

During Thursday’s Board of Supervisor’s Meeting, the Board voted on a measure to transfer ownership of the site of the Brewery Arts Center into the hands of the Brewery Arts Center themselves. For the past 40 years, the City has held ownership of the property at 449 King Street, and has been leasing the property to the organization.

The site of today’s Brewery Arts Center has gone through several changes in its time. The Carson Brewery was first built in 1860 by John Wagner, who created the brewery during the Comstock rush to wet the whistles of all those hoping to become the next gold-rush billionaire, and it became Nevada’s longest-operating brewery to date.

Carson City Kiwanis is Serving Breakfast to Raise Money for Scholarships

Carson City Kiwanis is serving short stacks for a tall cause at the Carson City Applebee’s on Oct. 5, 2019 from 8 to 10 a.m. The entire proceeds of this event will support the Ralph Denny Memorial Scholarship that awards a one-time $750 scholarship to a local high school graduate each school year. Originally named the Carson City Kiwanis Annual Scholarship, it was renamed following the passing of long-time Kiwanis member, Ralph Denny.

Carson City sheriff's deputies make DUI, felony warrant arrests

A 28-year-old man was arrested early Thursday morning for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, speeding 16 to 20 over the limit and failure to yield for a pedestrian, a Carson City sheriff's report said.
