Going into the last day of the month, Monday, Sept. 30, 2019 around the Carson City area and it looks to be quite chilly in the morning and then warming up some into the afternoon. Events include a luncheon with Nevada's State Treasurer Zach Conine, an art class and showings, West Coast swing dancing, and more. Enjoy the day.

There will be a Fat Tuesday Business Networking event at The Dayton Taphouse on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. Normally we do our events on Tuesdays but the Dayton Taphouse is closed on Tuesdays, so we were willing to work with them since there are only a few restaurants in the greater Dayton / Moundhouse area who can accommodate a group.

There will be a Fat Tuesday Business Networking event at The Carson Nugget on TUESDAY, October 22, 2019. The event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the address is 507 N. Carson Street. We usually meet at The Alatte Coffee & Wine Bar, at the high table.

National Honor Society held its induction ceremony Sept. 23 in the CHS Big Gym featuring guest speaker Ryan Costella a 2000 CHS graduate. Costella was an active member of NHS, and this fact influenced his desire to attend college at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA where he earned degrees in Political Science and English.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine. A native of New York, in 2003 Conine earned his bachelor's degree from Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, and in 2013 he completed his JD from UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law.

Calvary Chapel Carson Valley's Harvest Festival will take place on Oct. 31, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. It is a warm and safe alternative to Halloween located at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Pinenut Road. Admission is a suggested donation of two unopened bags of candy per family.

As we make our way to Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, events around the capital city include a job fair at the Carson Nugget, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, a Fat Tuesday business networking event, Culinary Traveler’s Club at Bleu Cafe and more.

Carson Tahoe Health will celebrate its 18th annual Think Pink kick-off for breast cancer awareness on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Red’s Old 395 Grill in Carson City will once again host the event.

The event is free to attend and individuals wearing a Carson Tahoe Think Pink T-shirt, the current one or from any year, will receive free appetizers courtesy of Red’s.

Heading into the first day fall, Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 we are looking at cool temperatures as a cold front passes through before a warming trend starts up Tuesday. Events include an estate planning seminar at the Carson City Senior Center, a guest presentation by the executive editor of the Reno Gazette-Journal at Round Table Pizza in Carson City, art showings, West Coast swing dancing, and more. A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested on 20 felony charges including burglary, possession of stolen property, burglary with a firearm, possession of instrument with burglarious intent, and removing a firearm’s serial number.

Marco Antonio Covarrubias was arrested in the 1100 block of Ridgefield Drive early Thursday morning after deputies were responding to the area of Pinion Pine Drive on report of a burglary, and the area had recently reported several other burglaries during the past week with similar circumstances.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Rockabilly Riot car show, Dayton Valley Days, a pancreatic cancer awareness walk at Silver Oak Golf Course, the annual Pooch Plunge at the Carson Aquatic Facility, horse endurance races in Virginia City, history talks at Mormon Station Park and much more!

During Thursday’s Board of Supervisor’s Meeting, the Board voted on a measure to transfer ownership of the site of the Brewery Arts Center into the hands of the Brewery Arts Center themselves. For the past 40 years, the City has held ownership of the property at 449 King Street, and has been leasing the property to the organization.

The site of today’s Brewery Arts Center has gone through several changes in its time. The Carson Brewery was first built in 1860 by John Wagner, who created the brewery during the Comstock rush to wet the whistles of all those hoping to become the next gold-rush billionaire, and it became Nevada’s longest-operating brewery to date.

Carson City Kiwanis is serving short stacks for a tall cause at the Carson City Applebee’s on Oct. 5, 2019 from 8 to 10 a.m. The entire proceeds of this event will support the Ralph Denny Memorial Scholarship that awards a one-time $750 scholarship to a local high school graduate each school year. Originally named the Carson City Kiwanis Annual Scholarship, it was renamed following the passing of long-time Kiwanis member, Ralph Denny.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Brian Duggan, Executive Editor of the Reno Gazette-Journal, the only daily newspaper still published in Northern Nevada. He will describe the challenges of putting out a new edition every 24 hours in the brave new world of online competition, private equity acquisitions and print journalism consolidation, even while plans unfold to build a new police headquarters right where the RGJ's newsroom now stands.

Heading into Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, events around the capital city include a TRIAD presentation for Carson City residents on the new Smart911 system, a discussion of the sheriff's office Mobile Outreach Safety Team at a meeting of the Carson City Republican Women organization, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a Fat Tuesday Business Networking event at J's Bistro in Dayton, family craft night at the library and more.

Heading into first day of the work week and halfway into the month, Monday, Sept. 16, 2019 will be quite a cool-down from the weekend, with gusty winds, a chance for showers and daytime high in the mid-60s. Activities include a presentation of the green dining district now being developed in Carson City, art showings, West Coast swing dancing, and more. Enjoy your day.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Donna Walden, President of GreenUP!, a nonprofit that has established a green dining district along Carson Street. The district's purpose is to help restaurants reduce all waste streams, with a strong focus on food waste. Accompanying her will be Angela Bullentini Wolf of Gather, who will describe that restaurant's experience implementing green practices.

Bel Solé is the newest expansion of Carson City’s Bella Salon and Spa which is now offering a year-round boutique, all natural spray tanning, sugar-hair removal, and lash extensions.

They’ll be hosting their grand opening party on Saturday, Sept. 14 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at their location at 1910 E. College Parkway in Carson City.

2019 was the inaugural year for the Northern Nevada Gambler 500. What is the Gambler 500 you ask? The Gambler 500 was born from a dream. A dream of giving forgotten, tossed aside and abandoned autos new life and a chance to become legendary.

For 60 years, camels, ostriches and even zebras have come to Virginia City for the annual International Camel & Ostrich Races. This hilarious annual tradition dates back to the 1950s, and features jockeys precariously perched on their beasts as they maneuver the track at high speeds, aiming for a win among the cheering audience in this historic mining town.

Heading into the final week of August and the Labor Day weekend around the corner, Monday, August 26 looks to be another especially hot day across the capital city and western Nevada with highs in the mid-90s. Activities around the capital city include a talk about earthquake preparedness with Carson City's fire chief, art showings, a clay club ceramics class at Western Nevada College, West Coast swing dancing at Carson Lanes and more. A Carson City business networking group, Fat Tuesday, will meet this Tuesday, August 27 at Alatte inside the Carson Nugget. All are welcome, attendance if free and there isn't a membership fee.

Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon will be the featured speaker at Monday’s Democratic luncheon. His presentation will focus on raising citizen awareness that western Nevada is at a significant earthquake risk, and of measures that can be taken to prepare for the worst in the event of a seismic event.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including HopeFest9 on Friday, dirt bike races at Fuji Park, a job fair at Eagle Valley Children's Home, and the final weekend of the Jazz and Beyond festival and Levitt AMP outdoor concert series at the Brewery Arts Center.

A 28-year-old man was arrested early Thursday morning for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, speeding 16 to 20 over the limit and failure to yield for a pedestrian, a Carson City sheriff's report said.
