Carson City emergency crews respond to vehicle accident with pedestrian on Highway 50 East
UPDATE: Care Flight was ordered and Carson City fire and ambulance responded tonight to an accident involving a pedestrian in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East at Fairview and Gordon. The victim, an adult female pedestrian, was conscious and moving on the pavement when rescue crews found her but was suffering from back and neck injuries.
The call came into dispatch at 5:18 p.m. Carson City sheriff's deputies rerouted traffic around the accident scene.
Nevada Highway Patrol was called and took witness statements. Northbound traffic was being at Fairview and diverted to Sweetwater. Southbound traffic resumed at 5:34 p.m.
Care Flight took the woman to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno. Since Nov. 11 there have been two serious accidents involving pedestrians. One resulted in the death of Carson City resident Michael Shields after he was struck in the crosswalk by a motorcycle while crossing Stewart Street at Telegraph.
The second accident happened Dec. 1 on Adams and Carson Street where a car struck a 37-year-old man crossing the street causing serious injuries.
"Again we have another pedestrian that was not seen by the driver that resulted in an accident," said Sheriff Ken Furlong. "Every time we have one of these, people are injured severely. If driving you need to be strongly attentive and if walking you need to watch out for those cars."
