Carson City Save Mart stores to match customer donations Friday to fight local hunger
This Friday, Dec. 12, Save Mart will match donations to Ron Wood Family Resource Center, a local Feeding America-affiliated food bank, through their Holiday "Give. Share. Care" program, for a total dollar-for-dollar matching grant of up to $5,000 for the day.
This initiative could not come at a more critical time for local food banks. Already stretched heading into the holiday season, recent cuts to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps) significantly dented the food budgets of thousands of local, low-income households.
Thankfully, food banks are some of the nation’s most efficient, direct-impact charities. At most food banks, a donation of $35 will provide a low-income family of four with one week’s worth of meals. So, these cash donations will not only be matched, but their impact will be multiplied by the food banks who can leverage the money to best meet community needs.
Holiday Give. Share. Care. is a program of Save Mart to help raise awareness of hunger in our communities, and how together with our shoppers, we can work to end this problem. Between now and January 2, 2015, shoppers can select a tag at checkout and directly donate to fund a meal for the local food bank: $2 for Breakfast, $3 for Lunch, $5 for Dinner.
The Food Bank of Northern Nevada will receive matching funds from the Reno and Sparks Save Mart stores and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center will receive matching funds from the Carson City Save Mart locations.
