CHS concert band plays alongside USAF musicians during sold out Carson City performance
Submitted by editor on Wed, 03/04/2015 - 8:35pmIt’s not often high school band students have the opportunity to play with a professional orchestra the size and quality of the United States Air Force Concert Band of Washington, D.C.
Yet several CHS band and Chamber Choir students played and sang along with the USAF Concert Band and Singing Sergeants during a sold out show at the Bob Boldrick Theater inside the Carson City Community Center on Wednesday night.

Independent living agency for disabled offers information, services in Carson City, Dayton

Staff members be visiting a different rural Nevada area each week to share information about products and services available to rural residents who have disabilities. They’ll be at the Carson City Senior Center, Friday, March 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the Dayton Senior Center the second Monday of each month, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and the Dayton Library the third Thursday of each month, from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Carson City Supervisor Brad Bonkowski to Hold 'Breakfast with Brad' Friday

The coffee get together is open to all Carson City residents. Bonkowski hopes anyone with a question or an idea regarding a city issue will stop in, plus he buys the coffee.
Bonkowski says the year is already off to a busy start. Last week’s ground breaking on the Multi-Athletic Center is a testament to that “After 20 years of debating and planning, the MAC is finally becoming a reality.
Carson City sheriff’s arrest log
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 03/03/2015 - 11:34amA 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested 6:33 p.m. in the 1800 block of Russell Way on misdemeanor charges of petit larceny and obstructing.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the Walmart store in the 3200 block of Market Street regarding a larceny that had occurred and the suspect running eastbound from the area.
The man allegedly walked out of the store with a shopping cart with $23.44 in merchandise, including body spray and shampoo, without paying.
Flooding forces closure of Carson City early childhood Aberasturi Center
Submitted by editor on Tue, 03/03/2015 - 9:15amUPDATE: Carson City School District’s Aberasturi Center, a support services, early childhood program adjacent to Bordewich Bray, has flooded and school is closed today.
School staff discovered the massive water leak at around 7 a.m. this morning, said Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes. More than two inches of water flooded the entire building.

Six injured in head-on crash on Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove
Submitted by editor on Sun, 03/01/2015 - 3:06pmSix people were injured in a weather related head-on crash Saturday morning on Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said. One woman remains in serious condition.
The accident was reported at 8:48 a.m. and involved a Toyota Camry, occupied by five people, three males and two females, and a Volvo, driven by a Carson City resident.

Two flown by Care Flight in accident on Highway 50 in Dayton
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 02/27/2015 - 7:44pmTwo people were flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno following an accident tonight on Highway 50 near Second Avenue in Dayton, according to Nevada Highway Patrol dispatch.
The accident was reported at 5:34 p.m. The two flown by Care Flight have non-life threatening injuries, according to NHP dispatch.
Traffic delays were experienced around the accident scene. NHP and Lyon County re-directed traffic. Officers have cleared the scene as of 7:40 p.m., according to dispatch.

WNC Baseball: Pool homers twice as Wildcats split to open SWAC play

CSI, however, bounced back to take game two, using a small-ball approach that its counterparts have succeeded with in the past. The Golden Eagles beat out three bunt singles and executed two sacrifice bunts to overcome home runs by Pool and Kody Reynolds in an 8-4 victory.

"It's a great day for our community" said Mayor Bob Crowell before ceremonial shovels were used to turn the dirt and usher in a new era of community athletic opportunities and sports tourism in Carson City.

Fun fact: Cuba Crutchfield, a trick-rope cowboy with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West, is buried in Carson City’s Lone Mountain Cemetery. Once upon a time in Nevada, a man was shot in Reno.
