Boy Scout group of the Comstock has members from Dayton, Virginia City
Submitted by editor on Wed, 02/25/2015 - 3:42pmBoy Scout Troop 847 continues to serve the young men of the Comstock. Meeting weekly at the Mark Twain Community Center, 500 Sam Clemens Avenue in Dayton, the Troop currently has 14 registered Scouts from Dayton and Virginia City.
The Troop’s program and operations are youth-run under the leadership of Senior Patrol Leader Star Scout Joshua Baughman and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader Star Scout Matthew McGifford. Under the mentorship of Scoutmaster Bill Boston and three Assistant Scoutmasters, these Scouts strive to provide a quality program of Scout activities.
Early morning vehicle pursuit from Carson City to Reno called off for safety reasons

Heartsafe Community approaches save another life at East Fork
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 02/24/2015 - 7:10pmDuring summer of 2014, a gentleman was jogging on Windmill Road in Fish Springs when he suffered sudden cardiac arrest. The gentlemen, who had no previous history of heart problems, collapsed in view of a bicyclist. The bicyclist was a nurse and immediately went to the jogger and provided CPR while flagging down two passing gentlemen who called 9-1-1.
By the time 9-1-1 was called, the three bystanders were cycling through CPR to pump blood through the jogger’s body until additional help could arrive to try to restart the heart.

Lake Tahoe ecosystem research gives insights on global change

“High-elevation lakes, such as Lake Tahoe, are sentinels of climate change,” said Lihini Aluwihare, associate professor of geosciences at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. “Small changes in the lake’s chemistry can have big impacts on the entire ecosystem.”

Two cases involving stolen, forged credit cards results in three arrests
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 02/23/2015 - 1:38pmThree Sacramento area women were arrested Saturday in two separate cases involving stolen credit cards, fraud and forgery. Carson City Sheriff’s Office investigators are trying to determine if the cases are related, said Lt. Brian Humphrey.
In the first arrest, officers recovered stolen credit cards, equipment to make credit cards, as well as stolen checks from victims in Douglas County and Sacramento, according to the arrest report.

Care Flight called after vehicles crash into fence and tree at Airport Road and Sherman
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 02/20/2015 - 4:05pmUPDATE: Care Flight was called this afternoon to respond to a patient involved in a two-vehicle crash that happened at the intersection of Airport Road and Sherman in Carson City reported to dispatch at 3:48 p.m.
Carson City fire and ambulance responded to the crash in which the vehicles, a Dodge truck and a Subaru, collided, with the truck hitting a fence/wall and the Subaru a tree, said Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Daniel Gonzales. The Subaru ran a stop sign and the truck ran into the Subaru, said Gonzales.
One person was flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Karnos Flirts with no-hitter as WNC rolls to victory

Karnos (2-1) no-hit the Golden Eagles through six innings and Kody Reynolds and Jake Bennett supplied three hits apiece as the Wildcats stemmed a five-game losing streak in Henderson. The Wildcats of Carson City stole eight bases, including two by Bennett and Austin Andrews, and put down three successful sacrifice bunts.

In addition, the fire district has received a rating of 3 for the fire station at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRI), which was previously rated as a 10.
